Bhaskar Oru Rascal Review & Rating|
Director Siddique, after the grand success of Ilayathalapathy Vijay-Asin starrer Kaavalan, is back in Kollywood with another remake. The director once again helms a remake titled Bhaskar Oru Rascal featuring Arvind Swami, Amala Paul, Pa Paandi fame Master Raghav and Theri fame Baby Nainika in lead roles. Touted to be a family entertainer the movie has action and comedy as major elements. The film produced by M Harshini has Amresh Ganesh scoring the music for the frames cranked by Vijay Ulaganathan. Popular comedy actor Ramesh Khanna has collaborated with director Siddique for Bhaskar Oru Rascal's screenplay. The after so much of struggle gets released today with decent responses.
Bhaskar Oru Rascal revolves around a widowed man, Bhaskar played by Arvind Swami and Vinitha by Amala Paul, whose children are studying in the same school and happen to be close friends. The two children played by Master Raghav and Baby Nainika decides to create situations and events that would make their respective parents join together. But their plans get ruined with the arrival of someone from Vinitha's past and this form the crux and core of this family action-comedy entertainer. Director Siddique with Bhaskar Oru Rascal makes the characters travel through the same line and space of what the original version had. He neither added new elements or catchy situations to engage the Tamil audience. The narration of first half remained as a package of Siddique's signature situational comedies with a quirky screenplay. Siddique has done a great job in identifying an apt actor to reprise the character played by Mollywood Megastar Mammootty in the original version but fails to get the right actress in reprising Nayantara. Arvind Swami deserves applauds for taking up a character which is outside his comfort zone whereas Amala Paul had nothing to do. Arvind Swami dominates the frames and Amala Paul's character was left with limited space which had nothing new to offer. Master Raghavan and Baby Nainika's combo was fun and engaging to an extent. Siddique has placed a huge lineup of co-stars especially comedy characters in the movie but it helped to engage the audience only till the interval. Robo Shankar, Porotta Soori and Khanna tried to level up the situations with their timely counters and acts but sticks to the same template that every Siddique movie has. The second half of the movie was filled with action and logically non-digestible sequences and unbalanced screenplay. The last portions of Bhaskar Oru Rascal was filled with twists and action sequences which were engaging but outdated.
Vijay Ulaganath's cinematography had nothing new to offer but helped the movie with decent and average frames. Amrish'sBackground scores though did put the movie to another level but his songs were not as good as expected. Bhaskar Oru Rascal faces issues of not having an engaging and pacy screenplay and apt placing of sequences and characters. The mass entertainer lovers may like the movie as the movie follows stereotypic and cliched elements of Commercial cinemas.
Final Verdict: Bhaskar Oru Rascal is an average movie that is worth watching only if you are a fan of the regular Kollywood mass entertainer and the actor Arvind Swami.
