Bhaiaji Superhitt Review & Rating

Bhaiaji Superhitt Review: Hit yourself with  Dhai Kilo Ka Haath Than Watch This Film

When Sunny Deol gives a punch it takes at least 50 metres for the unfortunate guy to roll on the floor. Bhaiaji Superhitt is the answer for what if the macho hero of Bollywood (in the 1990s though) fall on bad times. The result we all have witnessed in the trailer (if anyone has completely watched it except the unfortunate reviewers.

How times change! When everyone was going gaga over Lagaan, he silently delivered a memorable Prem Kahani in the form of Gadar. Now, he has to resort to self-parodying to satiate his addiction to appear on the big screen. Remember his famous dialogue from the 1990s blockbuster Ghayal which nowadays a favorite subject for memes? Jab Yeh dhai kilo ka haath kisi pe padta hai na, toh aadmi uthta Nahi ... utth jata hai. Alas! That Dhai kilo ka haath hit him and he has yet to get up from the free fall. All is not lost yet. But nothing is well when it comes to Bhaiaji Superhitt!

The superhit he is searching is only in the title of the movie. Coming to the story, really do we need to know it? Okay! Anyway, the aptly named Lal Bhaisahab Dubey is a don in Varanasi. He is confident and beats the shit out of anyone who comes in his way or rather he goes in their way. But like the CIA Officer in The Dark Knight Rises, his knees give away when he meets his Bane. That is, here, in this case, it is his wife Sapna. She is just the stereotypical nagging wife we have seen in many Bollywood comedies roasted to blackness in the past.

When she leaves him because of various comic reasons the scriptwriter has conceived, Bhaiaji thinks of an ingenious plan. He wants to tell his estranged life on the big screen. He hires a dunce thrown out of Bollywood as the director and a writer from Bengal aptly named Tarun Porno Ghosh. How and in what way Bhaiaji entertains all of us form the rest of the story.

Preity Zinta is incredibly beautiful even after all these years (it's been two decades since she made her debut) until she has to utter a dialogue. Her eyebrows give competition to Sine Waves. They can't help but oscillate up and down when she is talking. Though she did what is expected of her, it failed to click. Check the first paragraphs if you want to read about Sunny Deol or rewatch Ghayal.

Arshad Warsi who is quite adept at turning bad films to bearable levels tried to do the same here but he gets below average marks for his efforts. Shreyas Talpade is funny. Pankaj Tripathi who was brilliant in Stree just a few months ago just went through motions. Nothing to write about the rest of the cast.

The director who traveled with the story for more than half a decade should have known all along that this is not a workable script. The movie started more than seven years ago. He could at least have suffered from Seven Years Itch and go in search of other stories. The narration is sloppy. The action sequences look like a parody of parodies. The costume design is gaudy. Ameesha Patel must have been itching to be seen on the big screen with the actor who had given her a classic like Gadar.

It is written by some news outlets that Sunny Deol refused to dub for the movie until he was given the dues. The producer shouldn't have relented and left the movie at that time to save us from the torture. Isn't there any positive about the movie? Yes. There is one hugely uplifting aspect of the movie. It ends. Or you can leave the screens early. Hmm!

Bhaiaji Superhitt Preview

What is Bhaiaji Superhit about?

Bhaiaji Superhit has been in development hell for more than a few years. It was started way back in 2011 but only now it sees the light of the day. Action hero Sunny Deol tries to find his luck with this comedy film which also has his trademark (over the top) action sequences. Dimple beauty Preity Zinta makes her proper comeback into a mainstream Bollywood film.

The movie is about a don from Varanasi who has a dream to make it big in the cinemas. He hires a director and a writer who involve in many comic misadventures with our don. The rest is about how Lal Bhaisahab Dubey sees himself on the big screen and what his rivalry with Helicopter Bhaia. The movie is projected as a laugh riot interlaced with action sequences.

Bhaiaji Superhit promises

Laugh a minute ride

Bhaiaji Superhit could be a satire with the main character, a don in a smaller city of Varanasi wants to become a film hero. The glitz and glamor of film stars attract him like a magnet. He has a typical Bollywood style nagging wife who has a penchant for guns and the victim is you know who. Arshad Warsi is the director who has the unenviable task of introducing Bhaiaji to the film industry and Shreyas Talpade is the writer to pen a story suitable for Bhaiaji. All this happens with a lot of comedy as promised.

Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta as Bhaiaji and his wife

Bhaiaji is played by Sunny Deol who is known for his action hero image with a poker face. Here, he tries his hand in comedy. The comedy mostly seems to have worked quite well. The jokes in the trailer elicited few good laughs and the dialogue comedy and his trademark physical action promise a bit of timepass entertainment.

Known for her forthright nature, Preity Zinta has not been seen in movies for a long time. Except for a few and far between special appearances. She has returned to serious acting in a comedy role (pun intended) with this movie. Her habit of shooting at her husband while throwing her tantrums is enough to give a glimpse of how the movie is going to be. She teams up with Deol after a gap of 15 years.

Other highlights

Arshad Warsi is a proven actor and is known for his comedy timing and evoking laughter as one half of a comedy duo. Ameesha Patel plays the role of a film star who is to act with Bhaiaji. She is still looking good on glamor front. Jeet Gannguli, Raghav Sachar, Amjad Nadeem, Sanjeev–Darshan, and Neerraj Pathak and music produced composed the songs for the movie. The director Neerraj Pathak has a lot of confidence in the subject is evident from the fact that he went to multiple producers before finally the project initiated.
