Bhaagamathie Review & Rating|
Bhaagamathie is the first big film of the year and stars Anushka Shetty in the lead role. Directed by Ashok, the film also stars Jayaram, Murali Sharma, Prabhas Seenu, Dhanraj and Vidyullata Raman. The film tells the story of Sanchala (Played By Anushka) who is a former IAS officer and is now a prisoner. She also used to work as a personal secretary for politician Eeswara Prasad (Jayaram) who is now under surveillance by the CBI. The CBI wants to interrogate Sanchala and moves her to an old bungalow deep in a forest where she starts experiencing paranormal activity and the ghost of Bhaagamathie.
The rest of the plot revolves around the past of Bhaagamathie and her similarities with Sanchala. The CBI tries to deal with a schizophrenic Sanchala and find out the secretive past of Eeswara Prasad. R. Madhi has handled the cinematography and S.S. Thaman has composed the music and background score of the film while U.V Creations has given a lavish production value to it.
The highlight of the film is definitely Anushka’s performance. She fits perfectly into the dual-sided character of Sanchala but takes away the cake with her horrifying portrayal of Bhaagamathie. Especially towards the end, where her character becomes possessed by Bhaagamathie, Anushka does a great job with her natural screen presence and dialogue delivery.
Jayaram does a pretty decent job in the role of Eeswara Prasad, who is a central minister. Murali Sharma in the role of a police officer and Asha Sarath in the role of a CBI officer were also good. Comedians Dhanraj, Prabhas Seenu, and Vidyullekha fail to entertain as their characters did not have much to do. There was scope for some comedic scenes in the first half of the film but that didn’t happen.
The technical aspects of the film are just brilliant. G Ashok has made it big with his direction and he has also written an intricate story which has twists and turns that keeps the audience hooked to the screen till the end. The way that these twists unfold are also quite interesting. Thaman’s background music is the best part about the movie and it creates an eerie atmosphere that fits perfectly with the film.
Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao’s editing is top notch and he has kept the film tight with an ease that only an experienced editor could pull off. The production value by UV Creations is terrific and the artwork and VFX used for the film give it the perfect look for a movie of this genre. Cinematography by Madhie also deserves a special mention as he does a brilliant job here.
Verdict: Bhaagamathie is the perfect entertainer with great visuals and an even better background score to intensify the movie. The acting is also good and the film will serve as a great entertainment for the weekend. Definitely worth a watch.

As the production team couldn’t find the bungalow in the director’s imagination anywhere in the world, he had to put up his skills to design and construct one for the film.
