Babumoshai Bandookbaaz Review & Rating|
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is a film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag in the lead roles. The film is a story of Babu Bihari (Nawazuddin) who is a contract killer working for Sumitra (Divya Dutta) and falls in love with Phulwa(Bidita Bag) who is a rape victim and a cobbler. Tensions rise when one of Babu’s followers is hired to kill him.
The film’s script is very down to earth and very authentic when it comes to the dialogue and diction, but it is also filled with plot holes. The characters of the film turn on and try to kill each other without any explanation. Even Nawazuddin’s fine performance is not enough to save the film.
The songs of the film fail to match the intensity and story structure of the film. ‘Barfani’ is the only song that might stay with the audiences as the other songs do not fit in with the plot of the film. The background score composed by Anup Bhat is almost non-existent and adds nothing to the film.
Overall, the film fails to meet up to the expectations that the audience had fro the film, especially after the controversies this film got into. The performances of everyone except Nawazuddin Siddiqui are mediocre and the story does not make sense at times. The director, Kushan Nandy tries to make an authentic small town story but fails when it comes to storytelling.

What’s it about…
‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’ is an action thriller directed by Kushan Nandy starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Badita Das in the lead role. The movie is based on the life and times of Uttar Pradesh’s famous sharp shooter and contract killer, Babu (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The story revolves around Babu who makes a living by taking up contracts for killing people for a paltry amount. Babu fears nothing and lives king size till he realizes that his position as the No.1 contract killer in the area is being challenged. That’s the time when Babu takes up the challenge of involving himself in a risky game where the one who kills the maximum people wins the title. Will Babu win the title and reinstate his status as the undisputed contract killer of his area or not, forms the crux of this intriguing story.
What to watch it for…
• Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s realistic portrayal of a hit man
• Badita Das’ raw performance
• Kushan Nandy’s pacy direction
• Rustic landscapes of Uttar Pradesh
