Asura is a thriller directed by debutant Krishna Vijay and has Nara Rohit, Priya Benarjee, Ravi Varma in the lead roles. The film is a cat and mouse game between a jailor Dharma Teja (Nara Rohit) and a criminal Charlie (Ravi Varma). Charlie is sentenced to death for killing his step-siblings in a gruesome manner. But being a cunning criminal he tries his best to escape from the prison. On the other hand, Dharma Raju is a sincere cop who doesn't entertain even the smallest of mistakes which sets up the stage for mind games between the two.
Dharma Raju tries his best to hang Charlie as soon as possible but one or the other obstacle comes in his way and the proceedings get postponed multiple times. The interval scene has an interesting conflict point and it leads to the postponement of the sentence. Charlie plans to escape from the Jail and his brother (Ravi Varma) plans something big to bring his brother out of the jail. A twist in the story arrives just before the climax. What is that twist? Did Charlie manage to escape from the Jail? form the rest of the story.
Asura, like many of Nara Rohit's films, opened to a positive response from the critics but that didn't lead to a commercial success. The film was an average grosser at the box office.
