Asuravadham Review & Rating
Finally the highly awaited revenge thriller Asuravadham has opened in theatres. The film directed by Maruthupandian, starring Sasikumar in the lead role, is highly anticipated to be a breakout from the actor's recent movies which featured him in rural and semi-urban characters. Vasumitra and Nandita Swetha handle the other important roles in Asuravadham which has the screenplay by the director himself. Read Asuravadham review below.
Samayan (Vasumitra), a cunning womanizer, gets a dreadful call from an unknown number which threatens him of death. The following events leave Samayan horrified and he is clueless about why a man who he has never seen in his entire life is chasing him everywhere and wants him dead. The rest of the film unfolds the mystery and the suspense. If in mythology Asuravadham is the slaughter of Asura, the demon, in Maruthupandian compelling revenge saga of the same title, it is the triumph of good over evil.
Sasikumar who has hardly any dialogues in the entire movie has handled his gritty character with perfection. He has played out the parts in which he is seen as a rage-filled haunting stranger and the portions where he is portrayed as an affectionate man with equal brilliance. The action sequences were also handled well by the actor. Vasumitra who plays the antagonist of the film somehow manages to be convincing in his role like rest of the cast while Nandita Swetha, the leading lady of Asuravadham, suffers the same fate of most female lead characters.
Maruthupandian has successfully managed to make the first half of the film a tight and compelling watch, despite the slow pace. But this exactly makes the film stumble in the second half which is, in addition, already cliche-ridden and lazily written. But the film is not entirely lost even then, it manages to keep the audience glued to the seat by the hook and the crook. And apparently, SR Kathir's effective cinematography and Govind's tacit have played a hand in it.
Final Verdict: Quite a compelling revenge thriller and a good watch!
