Byomkesh O Agnibaan Review & Rating|
Anjan Dutt has effortlessly carry forwarded the thriller in a flow. The director has not complicated the story unnecessarily. In the moment of extreme tension, Ajit's dialogues serve as comic relief. Some moments also make the audience think. The moment when pure 'Bangaliana' emerges naturally or those moments when Byomkesh and Ajit talk about patriotism has been beautifully captured by the camera.
Jissu Sengupta as Byomkesh and Saswata Chatterjee as Ajit is a great partner in crime solving on-screen since the inception of Anjan 's Byomkesh franchisee and Adding himself as the main villain Anjan Dutt has got an exceptional trio natural actor set for the central characters. Ankita as the Anglo Indian pub crooner Lucy plays a glamorous yet distressed character and Swastika was a perfect fit for the way Anjan Dutt recreates Malati character from Agnibaan.
Dutt has promised a grand scale which didn't come out properly. However, the flaws have been covered by the acting of Jisshu Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee. There is not a single fault in their performance as investigating partners. Jisshu is only improving with every Byomkesh film.

Byomkesh O Agnibaan User Reviews
Mystery thriller trend in puja is back with Anjan Dutt's new Byomkesh movie. The movie is an adaptation combining two original Byomkesh stories Agnibaan and Uposonhar by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The movie also shows a much younger version of Byomkesh and Ajit duo to introduce the charecter of the villain Anukul Doctor in a flashback sequence which involves the debut story of Byomkesh "Satyanneshi".The timeline of the movie is set in post independence era and the two separate cases are six years apart in time scale. The storyline involves a stolen match box which holds chemically poisoned matchsticks. This was procured during the case of Agnibaan and gets stolen from the forensic lab to mark the inception of story of Uposonhar. The matchbox is suspected to be stolen by Kokonod Gupta who comes to Byomkesh s house and tells ajit he and Byomkesh are old acquaintances. Who is this mystery man ? And why is he interested in Byomkesh? The answers are revealed as the story progresses. Many shady charecter s, post war Kolkata,Anglo Indian Pubs intensifies the thrill and cat and mouse chase between Ajit and Byomkesh. The origin of the matchstick ,that is the essence of the Agnibaan case , is also shown parallely as Ajit describes the same to the policeman and the mess manager.Fine editing has efficiently stitched the three stories and one does not get bored watching it .
Ankita as the Anglo indian pub cruner Lucy plays a glamorous yet distressed charecter and Swastika was a perfect fit for the way Anjan Dutt recreates Malati charecter from Agnibaan. However, the flirting nature and ravishing beauty having extra marrital affair with the neighborhood doctor characterization of Malati might seem uncanny to the avid readers of the original piece. The colorist does a fine job for keeping continuity in the 70s Kolkata backdrop. But the climax scene acting of Anjan Dutt seems unnecessary and the attributed patriotism in Byomkesh should have been more subtle rather than literal. Analysing power scenario of World and giving larger motive to the case does make the movie overly concerned about the post independence crisis rather than actually focussing on the crime. Not every villain should turn into a philosopher.T he background score helps to aggregate the tension in the flirting as well as in the chasing scenes.
All-over, the movie fails to portray the actual timeline of Kolkata , still deserves a 7 out of 10 for the natural acting and the original war footages used in the title card.
