Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain Review & Rating

Directed by Punjabi filmmaker Harish Vyas, Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain is a love story between two people who have been married to each other for years and have grown old together. It tells a story that is different from all the other Bollywood masala romantic films and is mature and realistic. The movie stars Sanjay Mishra as Yashwant Batra, a post office employee who takes his life and the relationship with his wife for granted. His wife Kiran, played by Ekavali Khanna, wants nothing but the attention of her husband and for her to treat her like a lover. They have a daughter named Preeti, played by Shivani Raghuvanshi, who is in love with the next door neighbour named Jugnu.

Yashwant does not approve of this relationship, but can't do anything about it as Preeti is a modern day girl who makes her own decisions. In protest to her father, Preeti asks him if he known anything about love and copmanionship. This question changes the life of the family and sends Yashwant to find the meaning of true love and also to find the meaning of life, with the help of an intercaste couple Feroz and Suman, played by Pankaj Tripathi and Ipsita Chokroberty.

The performances in this film are brilliant, especially by Sanjay Mishra who has acted in some hard hitting films like Aankhon Dekhi, Masaan and the recent Kadvi Hawa. His character is very relatable to the audiences and they feel the pain and suffering that he goes through. Everyone is perfectly cast in their roles and do a great job of keeping their performance as believable as possible.

Farookh Mistry's cinematography is top notch and captures the locations of Varanasi beautifully. The productional value is also at par given the budget of the film and the direction too is proffessional. A special mention goes to the music directors  Praveen Kuwar, Oni-Adil and Ranjan Sharma who have created a blend of classical, folk and modern music. The only song that did not fit in was the love ballad between Preeti and Jugnu but that can be ignored.

All in all, Angrezi Mein Jehte Hain is a simple and small love story that will make you smile by the end of it and is definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of realistic cinema.
