Unlike his father Esthappan who was an excellent clarinetist, Solomon often doesn't live up to his own aspirations. But he could play amazingly and endlessly for Soshana, love of his life.
Soshana is the daughter of a prominent contractor in Kumarankiri and her family doesn't approve of her relationship with Solomon. Both try to elope when Shoshana's family fixes her marriage but gets caught before they could get away. And a series of following events result in Soshana's family agreeing to marry her off to Solomon if the church band led by him wins that year's competition. What ensues is a bevy of intriguing and thrilling moments, and a saga seized by highly peculiar characters like Fr. Vincent Vattolli, Fr. Ottaplackkan, and Shevaliyar Pothachan.
Amen is one of best Malayalam films to come out in the year 2013. The movie marks the third directorial of Mollywood's much-celebrated contemporary filmmaker Lijo Jose Pelliserry and could be tagged as a precursor of what could be called as a Pellissery brand of filmmaking. With its crazy blend of fantasy, satire, romance and alluring music, the film was quick to strike a chord with the audience as well as critics and turned out to be the first big hit for the director.
