Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo opens on a rather dark note for a family drama. Valmiki (Murali Sharma) is blessed with a baby boy but more than the happiness he feels frustrated as Ramachandra too is blessed with a baby boy. Ramachandra who once started his career as a clerk along with Valmiki is now the director of the same company as he marries the daughter of the company’s founder Ananth Radhakrishna (Sachin Khedekar).
Valmiki replaces Ramachandra’s son with his son with the help of an innocent nurse Sulochana (Easwari Rao). This is his way of revenge on Ramachandra as his Valmiki’s son will get all the luxuries while Ramachandra’s son will suffer in a poor family.
Valmiki names Ramachandra’s original son as Bantu and raises him with a bad treatment blaming his fate all the time. But Bantu (Allu Arjun) is a clever, happy-go-lucky guy who joins the office of Amulya (Pooja Hegde) and later falls in love with her. On the other hand, Valmiki’s real son Raj Manohar (Sushanth) turns out to be a foreign MBA college dropout.
When the situation demands, he fails to rescue his father’s company from a hooligan Appala Naidu (Samuthirakani)’s trouble. On the same day. Ramakrishna observes Bantu saving Amulya’s company from similar trouble. Impressed by Amulya’s business skills, Ramakrishna and ARK decide to get her married to Raj Manohar.
Amidst this, the nurse Sulochana who is out of coma after 25 odd years meets Bantu in a hospital and reveals that he is the son of Ramakrishna and not Valmiki. How Bantu reacts to this and how he saves his family from trouble form the rest of the story.
Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo received a great response from the audience and critics. The performances of in-form Allu Arjun, Murali Sharma, and the lead cast along with great music from Thaman were considered as its biggest assets. Trivikram was back in his comfort zone and presented a clean family entertainer yet again.
Banking on the Sankranthi festive season, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo became one of the highest-grossing Telugu movies of all time. It is currently the highest-grossing Telugu movie of 2020.
