Sanjay Dutt, son of veteran actors Nargis and Sunil Dutt is an Indian actor and producer who has acted in more than hundred Hindi films. He began his Bollywood career with ‘Rocky’ in 1981, followed by ‘Vidhaata’ (1982) and ‘Main Awara Hoon’ (1983), all of them being box office hit movies. Post his drug phase years, he returned to silver the screen with ‘Jaan Ki Baazi’ (1985). ‘Vaastav: The Reality’ (1999), ‘Mission Kashmir’ (2000), ‘Munna Bhai’ sequels and ‘Agneepath’ (2012) are some of the critically acclaimed movies which prove the prowess of the actor.
Sanjay Dutt Debut And Career
Sanjay Dutt made his Bollywood debut with the film Rocky in the year 1981 and went on to star in films like Vidhata, Main Awaara Hoon, Ilaka, Kanoon Apna Apna and more but decided to quit acting after going into rehab as he was addicted to hard drugs. He made a comeback with the film Naam where he finally established himself as a hit young actor. His performances in Kabzaa and Hathyaar were also praised by the critics and in the 90s, he starred in hit films like Sadak, Saajan, and more.
Sanjay Dutt was arrested in the year 1993 and returned to cinema in 1997 with films like Ram Gopal Verma’s Daud, which was a critical and commercial success for him. He then went on to act in hit films like Kartoos, Mission Kashmir, and Daag: The Fire. This is when Sanjay decided to step into comedy with films like Haseena Maan Jaayegi and found success in this genre too. His chemistry with co-actor Govinda was loved by all and they went on to do quite a few films together.
Sanjay Dutt's Career After Jail Sentence
In 2001, Dutt delivered hits like Kaante, Dus, Parineeta, and Mission Kashmir, but his image was badly hurt due to his personal life and the court case on him. He got his much-needed image change with the super hit film Munna Bhai MBBS by Rajkumar Hirani and this film made Dutt a household name. In 2006, he starred in the sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai which was a blockbuster and received critical acclaim. He received a number of awards, including one from the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his performance.
Before going to jail in 2013, he starred in films like Dhamaal, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Double Dhamaal, and played the villain in Agneepath. He also had a small role in 2013’s P.K starring Aamir Khan which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani. He made a comeback in 2017 with the film Bhoomi where Aditi Rao Hydari played the role of his daughter. He also signed Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 in the same year. It was also announced that his good friend and director Rajkumar Hirani will make a biopic on his life titled Sanju which stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role which released in 2018.
