  • Samantha Career

With her very debut film ‘Ye Maya Chesave’, Samantha breezed into the hearts of the Telugu youth through her portrayal of ‘Jessie’, winning multiple awards for her performance. Her role as a strong yet indecissive young girl turned out to be one of the be most relatable characters ever written.  She was praised high for her subtle performance in the film and the actress has especially received great compliments from legendary ANR garu. Subsequently, she made her Tamil debut with the film ‘Baana Kaathadi’.

In Telugu, her juggernaut kept rolling with blockbusters like ‘Brindavanam’ starring Jr NTR and Mahesh Babu’s ‘Dookudu’. With these two big films hitting the bull's eye, Samantha became the star heroine of Tollywood cementing her place firmly in the industry. Around this time, she appeared in a cameo in the Hindi remake of ‘Ye Maya Chesave’, 'Ek Deewana Tha'. In 2012, she starred in SS Rajamouli’s ‘Eega’, winning accolades and recognition for her performance. Before long, Samantha was considered as ‘Golden Girl’ in the Telugu Film Industry.

In the same year, Samantha starred in yet another Gautam Menon film ‘Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu’ in which she acted opposite Natural Star Nani. She has once again impressed the Telugu audience overwhelmingly with the way she changed her looks and body language in each stage of growth from a school-days girl to a 24-years-old woman. The year 2013 gave some of the blockbuster hits of her career including, ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ and ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ in which she acted opposite Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan respectively. But the year ended with ‘Ramayya Vasthavayya’, a major flop in her career at the box office.

Just like how the previous year treated her, 2014 too turned out to be a very good time for the actress. It began with ‘Manam’, which had three generations of the Akkineni clan – Akkineni Nageshwar Rao, Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil. Samantha perfectly was a perfect in the two roles she played and nailed them with utmost precision. In two different characters - Krishna Veni and Priya, the actress stealed the show along with Nagarjuna.

She then moved on to Deva Katta’s long-delayed project ‘Autonagar Surya’ where she has once again acted as Naga Chaitanya’s love-interest after ‘Ye Maya Chesave’ and ‘Manam’. Post ‘Manam’, the actress appeared in ‘Alludu Seenu’ ‘Anjaan’ and ‘Rabhasa’ which couldn’t do well at the box-office. Cheering up her from the disappointment over consecutive average flicks, Samantha got an opportunity to act opposite one of the huge stars of Tamil cinema Ilayathalapathy Vijay. She played Ankitha in Vijay starrer ‘Kaththi’ under A.R Murugadoss direction. ‘Kaththi’ became a sensational hit in Kollywood and welcomed Samantha with several offers.

In 2015, only three films of hers released which include ‘S/O Sathyamurthi’, ’10 Endruthukulla’ and ‘Thanga Magan’. But in 2016, she acted in total six films including a cameo in ‘Bangalore Naatkal’. In this year, she played leading lady opposite Vijay, Surya, Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR in movies such as ‘Theri’, ‘24’, ‘Brahmothsavam’ and ‘Janatha Garage’ respectively. 2016 has also given her a blockbuster movie like ‘A Aa’ which is based on Yaddanapudi Sulochanarani's novel, 'Meena'. Her remarkable performance in this simple and effective tale ‘A Aa’ earned her Filmfare and IIFA awards that year. Samantha has appeared as Anasuya, a 23-year-old vulnerable girl who was chained by an overprotective mother. She pulled the role off very well with varied expressions at an every encounter.

For the first time ever in her career, 2017 stood as the year where no films of Samantha hit the screens in the first nine months. Finally, on October 18, her first film of 2017, ‘Mersal’ released with a bang.

In 2018, she then went on to act as the female lead in the Ram Charan-Sukumar movie ‘Rangasthalam 1985’, both of these movies entered the 200 Crore club. Samantha then went on to star in the Savitri biopic titled Mahanati where she essayed the role of a journalist along with Vijay Devarakonda. In the same year, she signed the Tamil films Irumbu Thirai, Seema Raja, Super Deluxe and a Tamil-Telugu bilingual remake of the Kannada film U-Turn.
