Rakul Preet Singh is a prominent South Indian actress who had started her career back in 2009. Since her silver debut, she has been flooded with film offers and within in no time she became one of South India's most-sought after heroines. Background

Rakul was born at New Delhi on October 10, 1990 to Punjabi Sikh parents, Rajender Singh and Kulwinder Singh. Her father served in the Indian army for a long time. She also has a brother, Amarjee Singh. She was schooled at the Army Public School, New Delhi. After her schooling, she attended Jesus & Mary College, New Delhi to finish off her rest of the education. Since her young age, Rakul Preet wanted to become an actress and set off to pursue the dream.

Career

Rakul Preet Singh started modelling at the age of 18. In 2009, she bagged her debut chance which was the lead actress's role in 'Gilli', a Kannada film. By the time she finished her college, she became famous for her performance in Gilli. In 2011, she debuted in Telugu Cinema with 'Keratam'. In the same year, she participated in Femina Miss India, a beauty pageant. She scored 5 th rank in the contest. As per her, pageant's are stepping stones to the acting profession. Next year, she debuted in Tamil Cinema 'Thadaiyara Thaaka' and the film was received positively.

In 2013, she caught her big break in Tollywood with 'Venkatadri Express'. Her performance was well-received and it earned her the first Filmfare award nomination in the lead actress's category. In 2014, she debuted in Bollywood as one of the lead actresses in 'Yaariyan'. In 2014, her career skyrocketed due to the success of 'Loukyam', a Telugu rom-com. Her performance was loved by the audiences and it cemented her status in Tollywood. She bagged her second Filmfare nomination in the lead actress's category.

Owing to the success of 'Loukyam', Rakul was flooded with offers which saw her pairing with many stars of Tollywood. In 2015, a string of films, with her as the lead actress, hit the box office. Some of the commercial hits she scored that year were 'Pandaga Chesko'and 'Current Theega'. In 2016, she scored two successive hits with 'Nannaku Prematho' and 'Sarrainodu'. She has also been roped in for the lead actress's role in 'Dhruva', a Ram Charan starrer which is the Telugu remake of Tamil blockbuster 'Thani Oruvan'.

Personal

Rakul is a fitness freak and has diversified her professional career by buying a sizeable stake in F45, a gym in Hyderabad. The actress is a golfer and has participated in some tournaments before she became an actress. Also, she is an avid follower of cricket and was spotted quite a few times at cricket matches. Also, to promote a telugu TV show, she donned the role of a vegetable seller in her real life.
