Raj Tarun is an actor in Tollywood who started his career by writing and directing short films. After dropping out from engineering, he wrote, directed and acted in 52 short films and gained experience in filmmaking. After which, he entered the film industry as an assistant director to Ram Mohan and made his acting debut with the film Uyyala Jampala which was produced by the prestigious Annapurna Studios and Sunshine Cinemas where he was paired up with Avika Gor of Balika Vadhu fame and has tasted back-to-back success with films like Cinema Chupistha Mawa and Kumari 21F.

Raj Tarun Early Life and Background

Raj Tarun was born and brought up in Vizag, where he completed his schooling. From his childhood, he was inclined towards cinema and developed a special interest towards films after watching a lot of them. His father is a magician and a hypnotist who encouraged Raj to do magic shows in school since he was 3 years old. He also participated in many fancy dress competitions and was a topper in school till his tenth standard, never missing out on studies for films.

When he started his engineering course, he met a few other friends who also shared the same interest in filmmaking. All of them formed a group together and started making short films which became successful and helped Raj Tarun get recognition in the film industry.

Raj Tarun Career

Raj Tarun started his film career as a short filmmaker and then ventured into acting and writing in feature films. Some of his short films are The Blind Date, Love At First Sight, Approach, Proposal, Sambhar Idly, etc., which helped him, become popular on YouTube. Later, he dropped out of his engineering course and joined Ram Mohan of Sunshine Cinemas as an assistant director.

After working on the script of Uyyala Jampala, Ram Mohan and his team were unable to find the right fit for the lead role and were eventually impressed with Raj Tarun and cast him for the same. Raj initially wanted to become a director but also had an interest in acting and finally made his debut with the film Uyyala Jampala in 2013, which proved to be a success at the box office and brought recognition to both him and his co-star Avika Gor.

Both Raj Tarun and Avika Gor teamed up once again for the film Cinema Chupistha Mawa in 2015 which also turned out to be successful. Then in the same year, Raj Tarun appeared in the film Kumari 21F that turned out to be the biggest film in his career, and working in a Sukumar production helped him grow as an actor. The film had a very talented team of technicians, with Rathnavelu handling cinematography and Devi Sri Prasad composing the music, which led to a huge commercial success and a milestone in Raj Tarun’s career.

Raj Tarun then acted in a film Seethamma Andhalu Ramayya Sithralu (2016) which did not do well at the box office and turned a failure. Immediately he teamed up with Manchu Vishnu for the film Eedo Rakam Ado Rakam that released in the same year. Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam became a big hit and brought Raj Tarun back to the success form.

He also had cameo appearances in Majnu and Naanna Nenu Naa Boyfriends in which he played himself.

In 2017, he acted in Kittu Unnadu Jagratha opposite Anu Emmanuel in which he played the role of a mechanic who kidnaps pet dogs. The film received a positive response from the audience and became a super hit. He then appeared in Andhhagadu, where he was paired up with Hebah Patel for the third time in his career, after Kumari 21 F and Eedo Rakam Aado Rakam, and the film received the best opening in Raj Tarun’s career.

He started the year 2018 with a cameo in the film Balloon and then had a release on 14 January with the film Rangula Ratnam opposite Chitra Shukla, which was directed by Sri Rajani. He then acted in films like Raju Gadu which hit the screens on 1 June. Raju Gadu also failed give the much needed hit to Raj Tarun. His next release was Lover which was bankrolled by top producer Dil Raju.

Raj Tarun also worked on the screenplay and dialogues for his first film Uyyala Jampala and the second film Cinema Chupistha Mava. He was also given credits in the titles for the same.

Raj Tarun Awards and Nominations

Raj Tarun received his first award at SIIMA in the year 2014. He was awarded Best Debut Actor Male for the performance in the film Uyyala Jampala. The event took place on September 12th and 13th at Stadium Negara in Kaulalampur. Raj Tarun received the award from Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi.

If not he returns home and he plays with his pet dogs. Raj Tarun has 20 pet dogs! Hannah, Shadow, Pandu, Coco, Scooby, Rocky, Candy, Rudy, and Minnie are the name of his pet dogs. He has a German Shepherd, a Labrador, a stray, two Beagles and three Pomeranians. Being surrounded by all these pets is like a huge party for him. His favorite pass time is to play all with these pets.
