Nivin Pauly is an actor and producer predominantly working in Malayalam cinema. Nivin made his debut on the silver screen with Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Malarvadi Arts Club in 2009. The actor went on to become a rage among youngsters with his performances in films like Thattathin Marayathu, Bangalore Days, Neram and Premam. He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best actor for his performance in Bangalore Days and 1983.

Nivin Pauly was born to Pauly Bonaventure and his wife on 11th October 1984 in Aluva, Ernakulam. Since his father worked Aarau, Switzerland, his parents stayed in Switzerland while Nivin and his elder sister grew up with their grandparents in Aluva. Nivin used to spend his summer vacations with his parents in Switzerland. He acquired a B Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT), Angamaly. He joined Indian tech giant Infosys, Bangalore in 2006. He worked in the firm till 2008 and returned home due to his father’s death.

Pauly was born into a Catholic family from Aluva, Ernakulam on 11 October 1984. Nivin's father, Pauly Bonaventure, was a mechanic who worked in Aarau, Switzerland and his mother was a nurse at a Swiss hospital. Nivin Pauly, who was brought up in Kerala, visited them in Aarau during his vacations, where they stayed for 25 years. He married his college mate and girlfriend Rinna Joy on 28 August 2010, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Aluva and the happy couple are blessed with two children.
Nivin met Rinna Joy while he was studying at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology. Rinna, in an interview, said that they were initially part of a large group of friends who hung out for movies and outing. Later, they grew close and worked together in Infosys, Bangalore. When Nivin quit his job and returned to Aluva, it was Rinna who stood by him and gave him strength to follow his passion.

Nivin had come home in 2008, quitting his techie job in Bangalore due to the untimely death of his father. In an interview, the actor was seen recalling those days as frustrating. His father has died; he had quit his job and was even frustrated to go back to the same work.
It was his friends who dragged him to an audition for Malarvadi Arts Club, which became the debut directorial of celebrated singer and son of scriptwriter Sreenivasan, Vineeth. Nivin had a broken leg due to an accident during a football game and had apparently not interested in attending the audition. He was not included in the initial shortlist but turned lucky when one of the finalists dropped out.
He got selected for the film which, along with him starred a bunch of newbies including Aju Varghese, Bhagath Samuel etc. The film was a decent grosser at the box office. Produced by actor Dileep, Malarvadi Arts Club was released in 60 theatres across Kerala. The film turned out to be a success. Nivin went on to star in multi starrers like The Metro and Joshiy’s Sevens and appearing in guest appearances in Traffic and Spanish Masala. Most of these films didn’t make any significant mark at the box office (except Traffic) and the actor took a yearlong break.
What broke expectations and hinted the birth of a popular star was the music video Nenjodu Cherthu from the album Yuvvh directed by Nivin’s longtime friend Alphonse Puthren. The video, which starred popular actress Nazriya Nazim was stylishly shot and composed, became a smash hit, making Nivin a rage among the youth. Three months after Yuvvh that is on 6th July 2012, Thattathin Marayathu by Vineeth Sreenivasan happened. The film had a staggering box office reception and most of the theatres had a house full board outside during the first three weeks. Collecting a total of Rs 18.9 crore, the film became the second highest grosser of 2012, moreover establishing Nivin Pauly as a prominent star.
Though in the same year Thattathin Marayathu released, he acted in films like Bhoopadathil Illatha Oridam, PuthiyaTheerangal by Sathyan Anthikkad, Chapters by Krishna Kumar, the success of the Vineeth Sreenivasan directorial made the lukewarm response to his other films inconsequential. In later, he played Rahul Vaidyan, the antagonist in Aashiq Abu’s Da Thadia. The film was fairly successful at the box office.
The next year saw Nivin foraying into Kollywood too. Alphonse Puthren’s maiden film, Neram was made as a bilingual with both Tamil and Malayalam versions with the same name. The film was a super hit in both languages. In the same year, he starred in award-winning director Shyamaprasad’s NRI drama, English: An Autumn In London and Sameer Thahir’s short, Isha in the anthology flick, Anchu Sundarikal. His other two releases were Arikil Oral and My Fan Ramu in which he played a cameo. Nivin Pauly featured in some of Malayalam’s biggest hits from the year 2014. He starred in 1983, the debut feature by photographer Abrid Shine and Anjali Menon’s multi starrer-family-drama Bangalore Days in 2014. His performances in both these films earned him his first Kerala State Award for Best Actor. Bangalore Days turned out to be the biggest hit of recent Malayalam history. He also made a guest appearance in Vikramadithyan by Lal Jose and Jude Anthany Joseph’s Ohm Shaanthi Oshaana with Aju Varghese was a box office hit.
Premam, directed by longtime friend Alphonse Puthren brought all the Aluva friends together. Nivin starred in the film along with his friends like Krishna Sankar and Sabareesh Varma, playing the three stages from the life of George. The film, which also marked the debut of Sai Pallavi as a lead, collected over 60 crores and became the second highest grossing Malayalam film ever. His films like Action Hero Biju and Jacobinte Swargarajyam has altogether collected over 60 Crores from the box office. Then he stepped into Kollywood with the official Tamil remake of Rakshit Shetty's Kannada movie. The movie failed to impress the Tamil audience but his looks and appearance in the movie became a trend among the movie buffs and Premam fans. With Shyama Prasad's Hey Jude, Nivin started his success saga in 2018 and has bagged big projects Kyamkulam Kochunni, Moothon directed by Geethu Mohandas are among the list. His upcoming movie Kayamkulam Kochunni directed by Roshan Andrews is one of the biggest movies he has bagged in his career.

Nivin Pauly Controversies
On December 2013, the actor landed up in a controversy when the Film Employees Federation of Kerala complained about his indiscipline on set. Nivin was allegedly warned along with fellow actor Fahadh for their behaviours. The actor responded to the rumours that he has no clue on what basis the false news had spread.
In another incident, Nivin was at the receiving end of a fan outburst when he allegedly did not to pick up a call from Superstar Mohanlal. The news was met with harsh criticism against the actor from the Superstar’s fans. Nivin clarified through his Facebook page that the rumour was false and all is well between him and Mohanlal.
In July 2015, ASP Merin Joseph IPS received flak when she uploaded a photo of hers and the actor while attending a function. Apparently, higher officials warned her about the action as she was in uniform and was on duty while attending the function.
