Monali Thakur Family
Monali Thakur was born in Kolkata in a Bengali musical family. Monali's father Shakti Thakur is a Bengali Singer and her sister Mehuli Thakur is also a playback singer. She got training in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Pandit Jagdish Prasad. She also learnt hip-hop and Bharatanatyam dance styles and is also a trained salsa dancer.

Monali Thakur, at an age of 14, received her first Best Playback Singer Award for the serial Sri Ramkrishna at the Anandlok Awards. She participated in an Indian singing reality show Indian Idol season 2 and got the ninth place. She rose to fame after the show but had to struggle a lot to make a career in Bollywood as a playback singer. Impressed by her voice, in 2008, music director Pritam Chakraborty offered her to sing two songs in the Bollywood movie Race.
'Zara Zara Touch Me' and 'Khwab Dekhe' - Race (2008)
The blockbuster hit of 2008, Race, had a hit soundtrack too. Monali Thakur gave her voice for two songs 'Zara Zara Touch Me' and 'Khwab Dekhe' which has 28+ million views and 9.8 million views on YouTube. Both the songs are still audience's favourite.
'Sawar Loon' - Lootera (2013)
Monali Thakur won the Best Playback singer award for the love ballad song 'Sawar Loon' from Sonakshi-Ranveer starrer Lootera. The song is very mesmerizing and speaks directly to the heart.
'Cham Cham' - Baaghi (2016)
With 239+ million views on YouTube, the song 'Cham Cham' from Shraddha-Tiger starrer Baaghi is surely a foot tapping song and a viral one.

Monali Thakur, as a child artist, appeared in Bengali Television soap 'Aalokito Ek Indu' where she played the lead character Indubala. Later she appeared in Raja Sen's Bengali movie Krishnakanter which marked the movie acting debut. She made her Bollywood debut in 2014 with the movie Lakshmi, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. MonalI Thakur was one of the judges in Bengali music reality show Bengali Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs and also was a part of Indian television series Coke Studio. Monali Thakur is currently an 'expert' on 'Rising Star', an Indian singing reality show.
