Irrfan Khan is a top-notch Indian actor who has made it big with his unconventional looks and heartfelt performances. An NSD pass out, he started his career in television serials like 'Chanakya', 'Chandrakanta' & 'Banegi Apni Baat'. This Padma Shri awardee has appeared in more than 50 films with ‘Salaam Bombay’ being his debut movie. 'The Lunchbox', 'Paan Singh Tomar' & 'Maqbool' from Bollywood and 'The Namesake', ‘Life of Pie’ & ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ from Hollywood stand testimony to Irrfan's versatility.

Irrfan Khan Career

Irrfan Khan started his screen career in the year 1988 with the Oscar Nominated film Salaam Bombay! And went on to achieve critical acclaim for his negative roles in films like Haasil and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Maqbool for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain. His first role as the lead was in 2005 with the film Rog and his performance was praised by the critics. He then appeared in films like Life In A Metro, and his chemistry with Konkana Sen Sharma was loved by all.

He then went on to act in Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire which also featured Anil Kapoor. This made Irrfan a known face in Hollywood, bringing him roles in big films like The Amazing Spider-Man, Life Of Pi and the HBO series In Treatment. Irrfan’s next project was the critically acclaimed The Lunchbox which was appreciated at the Cannes Film Festival. He then acted in films like Gunday, The Expose, and Haider.

Irrfan Khan appeared in two huge hits in 2015. One was the Shoojit Sircar directorial Piku which also starred Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan and the other was the Hollywood blockbuster Jurassic World produced by Steven Spielberg. He was also seen alongside Tom Hanks in Inferno. 2017 was a big year for the actor as his film Hindi Medium turned out to be a sleeper hit and did great business at the Indian and Chinese box-office. In 2018, he starred in Blackmail and Karwaan and also signed a sequel to Hindi Medium.

Irrfan was born in a Muslim Pathan family to Jagirdar Khan and Begum Khan and belongs to the royal Tonk Hakim family. He is married to writer Sutapa Sikdar, who was also his batchmate in National School Of Drama. The couple has two children, sons Babil and Ayan. In the year 2018, Irrfan announced that he is suffering from a Neuroendocrine tumor and that he will be traveling abroad to get cured of it. He also wished to keep further news about this issue to remain private.
