Introduction

Anupama Parameswaran is an actress who is highly popular among the Malayalam and Telugu audience. Anupama launched her acting career through the blockbuster Malayalam movie Premam, directed by maverick director Alphonse Puthren. Her role of Mary in the movie, gained her popularity like no other debutant have received in the recent times. Soon after this movie, she forayed into Telugu by debuting as the seconds female lead in the movie A Aa, which became a super hit. Later she reprised her role in the Telugu official remake of Premam. She is having her Tamil debut alongside Dhanush in Kodi. In very short time, Anupama has been able to capture the likeness of scores of the audience in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil.

    Anupama was born on February 18, 1996, to Parameswaran and Sunitha. She was very passionate about movies from early childhood. Anupama studied music till 8th standard and got trained in classical and Carnatic dance. But, according to her, it was her laziness that made her discontinue both dance and music. She used to be a regular stage performer during her school days. And was part of a drama club in her hometown. Anupama did her schooling from Don Bosco Central School and National HSS, Irinjalakuda. Later she enrolled in BA Communicative English at CMS College, Kottayam. It was during her college days when she auditioned and got selected for the role of Mary in Premam.

    On the family front, Anupama’s dad Parameswaran works in Qatar and her mother Sunitha is a housewife. She has a younger brother Akshay. Anupama is a pet lover and has a squirrel (named Chiku) and a dog (named Snoopy), which she considers as part of her small family.

    Anupama was passionate about films, music and dance from her early childhood. She has got full backing and support of his family for pursuing a career in the film world. As a child, she used to take classes for music and dance and was also an active member of a drama club in her hometown. She used to participate in almost all competitions during her school days. It was during her college days when she saw the audition call for Alphonse Puthren’s second directorial venture Premam. She filled in her application and was called for the audition process. As per her, the first thing Nivin Pauly said to her was “get out!” (mockingly) because she hadn’t watched Alphonse’s first movie ‘Neram’. Later she was selected for the role of Mary in Premam. The posters and songs released prior to the movie’s release only featured this debutant (out of the three heroines). She and her curly hair shoot to fame after the song Aluva Puzha was released. Anupama is one of the few lucky actresses whose first movie itself was the big break in their career.

    Post the huge success of Premam, Anupama, just like the two other female leads in it, began to receive a lot of offers, even crossing the language. But Anupama was very choosy and accepted to the second female lead in Telugu movie A Aa, thus marking her Tollywood debut. She also agreed to reprise her role from the original, in the Telugu remake of Premam, with Naga Chaitanya as the lead. Both the roles of her was duly noted by the audience, giving her a huge fan base in the Telugu speaking states. She also signed another project in Telugu, titled Sathamanam Bhavati, opposite Raj Tarun, which will be a 2017 release. She marked her debut to Kollywood as one of the two female leads in Dhanush starrer Kodi. Post, Premam, she didn’t sign any other movies until Dulquer Salmaan starrer Sathyan Anthikad movie Jomonte Suvisheshangal. In between, she did appear in the Prithviraj starrer James and Alice but it was just a cameo appearance. She has been able to impress the audience and gain more fan base with each of her movies. As of now, she has given her studies a back seat and is completely focusing on her acting career.

    The year 2018 has become the busiest period for the actress as she had bagged a couple of big projects in Tollywood. Her 2018 Telegu projects include four movies, Superstar Ravi Teja's Yevodu Okkadu, Krishnarjuna Yudham with Nani, Hello Guru Prema Kosame with Ram Pothineni, SDT 10 starring opposite Sai Dharam Tej.

    This young and budding actress, made a huge uproar among the film lovers’ circle when she, in an interview, said that she won’t cut short her thick and curly hair even if the legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam asks to. Soon after this interview, Anupama became the hot target for online memes and trolls. She was even called as someone who has got her head into stardom. Once, this remark made a huge issue, Anupama clarified on it. She stated that what she said was just as a joke and didn’t mean any disrespect to the great director. In a later interview, Anupama added that she is an adherent lover of Mani Ratnam and all his films. She also mentioned that Mani Ratnam is the only director with whom she would love to work.

    Another controversy that landed her in trouble was the circulation of obscene photos claiming to be hers. The actress was targeted on social media for the fake photos that went viral and she had to seek legal help when the morphed pics went viral.

    Anupama Parameswaran revealed during an interview that she has been in love and has suffered a heartbreak.  She said ever since the song from ‘Premam’ released said that though it took a lot to get over her heartbreak, she still believes in love. When pressed to reveal more about her failed love affair, the youngster wanted the subject closed saying that it is the past and she is over all that.
