After completing his education, rather than getting into films, Anoop tried a more familiar route, Television. His charming looks and acting skills made him famous on the mini screen in no time. He was part of the most famous mega serials, Swapnam and Megham (both aired on Asianet). His roles in both the TV soaps were well received by the viewers, making him a known face among the Malayali household. He banked on this and tried his luck on the big screen. Impressed by his performance on the mini screen, director Vinayan added him to the cast of his 2002 film Kattuchembakam, that too as the second male lead. Jayasurya (his second movie) was the main lead. But, Anoop Menon’s debut affair wasn’t a successful one. The movie was a disaster at the box office. Though his role in the film showcased his skills, many projects didn’t turn up for him in the coming years. Until 2007, he had only two more movies. In 2007, he made a sort of comeback with Ranjith movie Kaiyoppu. But the three remaining movies in the same year didn’t add much to his career. In fact, considering his fame on the mini screen, hardly anyone expected such a dismissal early part of the career. The next year, Anoop Menon debuted as a screenwriter with the Mohanlal starrer Pakal Nakshatrangal. He also acted in the movie as Mohanlal’s son. But the big break in his career came with his second movie in 2008. Directed by Ranjith, Thirakkatha had Prithviraj in the lead while Anoop Menon as the equally important second lead. The movie went on to be a big success and turned the luck star into his favour. His performance was highly appreciated. Anoop Menon also played a character in this lesser known flick. But, after his big break also, he struggled to find noteworthy characters. In 2009 and early 2010, though he was part of hit projects like Ivar Vivahitharayal, Loudspeaker and Mummy & Me, he failed to get a lasting attention of the audience. Then came Cocktail in 2010, which totally boomed up his career. Once again paired with Jayasurya, this movie also had him as the second lead and was based on the Hollywood movie Butterflies On A Wheel. Cocktail became a super hit and once again the name Anoop Menon began to carry weight. His very next movie, Traffic directed by Late. Rajesh Pillai featured him in the most prominent role of Ajmal Nazar IPS. The actor was able to captivate the viewers, this time. Next movie of his, Pranayam, also helped in making him set a mark for himself in the industry.
Then in 2011, came the movie Beautiful. The movie was scripted by him with Jayasurya in the lead and VK Prakash at the helm. The movie also marked his debut as a lyricist. He even won the SIIMA for Best Malayalam Lyrics for the song Mazhaneer Thullikal. The same year also had his first movie as the solo male lead. Directed by Kumar Nanda, Mullassery Madhavan Kutty Nemam P.O, had him as a family man. Though his performance got few thumbs up, the movie was a big let down at the box office. But his next film, Ee Adutha Kalathu directed by Arun Kumar Aravind in 2012, put him back on the track of fame. Then again, the next 6 movies (all in 2012), didn’t add much glam to his career. After that came Trivandrum Lodge, which was written by him and directed by VK Prakash. Once again, Jayasurya was the main lead in the movie, and it went on to be a successful affair. But, the movie also received a lot of flakes, owing largely to its dialogues which were of dual meaning. In 2013, came Hotel California which gave him another popular role. But, the next big thing in his career happened in 2014 with the movies 1983 and Vikramadithyan. Anoop Menon won the Kerala State Award for Second Best Actor for his role in these two films. 2014 also gave him Angry Babies In Love, which was a moderate hit. After that, until Paavada in 2016, he had few movies but none of them was able to make big waves at the box office. But, his career was already established and his calibre recognized. Then was Paavada, which had Prithviraj in the lead role and Anoop playing an equally important second hero. The movie was a huge success at the box office.
