Due to the current COVID-19 lockdown, the consumption of digital content took an exponential spike. Also, the OTT services are leaving no stone unturned to compete with the regular cinema that already took a hit due to the shutdown of cinema halls. Making things more difficult for cinema to regain its past glory, OTT services are coming up with unique plans to give distributors a run for their money.
Going by the news that popular OTT service Disney + Hotstar rented the largest film city Ramoji Film City located in Hyderabad for three years, it is a clear sign that the war between OTT and cinema is going to intensify in the coming days.
We knew the fact that film shoots in Teluguland are permitted to resume. But many production houses are not coming forward to take up the risks. As people are still fearing the looming pandemic, it seems highly impossible for our film units to fly abroad or other locations to shoot the films in these troubled times. The only possible option they have is to erect the sets at studious like Annapurna Studios, RFC, etc.
But, if the news of Disney renting RFC turns true, it might lessen the scope for Telugu film shoots to shoot there, as priority will be given more to the digital stuff.
