Why remaking Ayyappanum Koshiyum is a bad idea!

Sachy's Ayyappanum Koshiyum, the 2020 Mollywood blockbuster that starred Biju Menon and Prithviraj in the title roles had made moviebuffs wonder in awe. Why? The film's taut screenplay, impeccable performances by the leads, thumping BGM are what made the film one of a kind, almost inimitable. Most of the non-Malayalee moviebuffs too went gaga over the film that it enticed producers from Tamil, Telugu and Hindi film industries to grab the remake rights.

However, we believe that the film should be left untouched. One, Biju Menon is a senior actor yet Prithviraj is an actor with a higher star value. Yet, Biju was THE HERO in this film, having more screen time and elevation scenes than Prithvi that he even lands multiple punches and bashes Prithviraj enough. Mind you, this happens only in a Mollywood film where a star hero sets his star image aside for the film. Further, the film is too raw and nativity-driven that we fear that it cannot be recreated in another language. Also, the film is devoid of 'other' commercial elements that is mandatory for non-Malayalam commercial potboilers. Thirdly, the film has been talked about enough that we wonder if the remake would interest the moviebuffs anymore.

We hope that other language producers spare this creative piece or atleast do justice to the original!
