India's most maverick director, SS Rajamouli has given his masterpiece in the form of Baahubali: The Conclusion. The movie is shattering all box office records set by any Indian movie, in and outside the nation. It is for the first time that a South Indian movie has succeeded to completely overpower Bollywood films and become the face of Indian cinema in front of the world. Baahubali 2 Mania is beyond words that even after releasing in 9000 screens worldwide, people are finding it hard to get a ticket! The movie has definitely started a new era for Indian cinema, in which the market is wider, the visual presentation is bigger and the final output is magnanimous. In short, the success of Baahubali franchise, especially Baahubali: The Conclusion is good for Indian cinema, as a whole. But, it's bad news for Bollywood. Why? Read below 9 reasons which will validate this point.

  1. Erasing all ‘Khan’ Records

When it came to Indian Box Office collection records, the Khan trio ruled it. But, no more! Baahubali: The Conclusion has beaten them out in their own race. In fact, for the first time in Bollywood's history, a Hindi dubbed movie grossed a massive Rs. 41 Cr, which is second only to SRK's Happy New Year. And this is not a small shock for the trade analysts of Bollywood and elsewhere in India. For the first time, Khans are second in the BO record books!

  2. South Indian director becoming India’s biggest director

Earlier whenever the names of Indian film directors were listed, the top places in the list were the property of Bollywood directors. They enjoyed a star actor status among their peers. But, that has changed. With Baahubali: The Conclusion, SS Rajamouli has rightly attained the tag of India's most maverick director. His vision of a movie is so large, wide and detailed, that it is hard for any other director, even the top guns of B'wood, to give him a run for his money. With just two movies, SSR has become the biggest brand among Indian filmmakers.

  3. Director prominence over star cast

Be it any Bollywood movie, the biggest selling point would be the star cast. And if it is a Khan movie, then they are the focus point. In the case of Baahubali 2, a big shift happened in this regard. The biggest selling point for the movie wasn't Prabhas but SS Rajamouli. And the monstrous success of the duology proves that if the filmmaker is a top notch guy with a great vision and visualization skill, then there is really no need for a big star in the lead. This totally breaks the Bollywood misconception that it's the star actor and not the director who is needed for a big success.

  4. Becoming the pride of Indian cinema

Until the release of Baahubali: The Conclusion, the pride of Indian cinema was always Bollywood films. This was because Hindi movies were made on a big budget, marketed extensively, released on a large scale and collected a huge amount of money. But with the release of Baahubali 2, all of this changed. The movie collected over 100 Cr on day one itself, and that too just from the Indian market. This was not even possible for the biggest of the Bollywood films. And abroad also the movie topped all the BO charts, with positive reviews only, thus becoming the torchbearer of Indian films.

  5. Only Indian movie till date to have a pan-world appeal

Even though Bollywood has a wider releasing market compared to South Indian films, the appeal of a Hindi movie wasn't even throughout the world. In some regions, even the biggest hits in Indian market were a failure. But that is not the case with Baahubali: The Conclusion. It has done something that even bigwigs of Bollywood thought to be impossible. It created hype and appeal which was high and even throughout the world. A regional language movie able to achieve this level of anticipation was never imagined, but making the impossible, possible is what Rajamouli is known for.

  6. End of Bollywood’s market dominance

Until April 28, 2017, Bollywood was the dominant force in Indian cinema. The B-town aka the big brother was the Indian film industry which had the largest of the audience, thus the widest market. But, that is not the case anymore. With the magnum success of Baahubali: The Conclusion, the dominance of Bollywood has been completely shattered. A Telugu movie getting 9000 screens same day worldwide release is something that even the biggest of the Bollywood movie couldn't achieve. Baahubali 2 simply outsmarted the whole of Bollywood, single-handedly.

  8. Setting up a benchmark even for Bollywood

Many have a different opinion about the quality of VFX, graphics and overall technical perfection of the movie. Even after keeping that in mind, we can surely state that Baahubali: The Conclusion has the best of graphic works that we have seen in Indian movies, so far. And it has clearly set a benchmark in this regard, even for Bollywood films. And not just on the technical part, this magnum opus was made on the largest canvas ever visualized in Indian cinema. Thus, Baahubali 2 has become the movie with which future huge budget epic projects will be compared.

  9. Widening South Indian cinema market

Till date, the South Indian cinema had a very limited market. Other than their home turf, the pan-India market itself was very restricted. Crossing the national boundaries, each regional industry had a pocket of stronghold but never had an evenly distributed overseas market. That was there only for Bollywood movies. But, with the release of Baahubali 2, the whole of international audience has realized that South Indian movies are also something to watch out for. This has obviously helped in widening the market for South films and also gives hope to other grand projects from South.

  10. India’s biggest commercially successful franchise

There have been many franchises in India cinema, mostly in Bollywood, but none of them have been completely successful. Movies in the franchise were never able to outshine its predecessor/franchise starter. In fact, no Indian movie franchise was able to establish itself properly and come even close to the Hollywood movie franchises. But, here also, Baahubali franchise has done the unthinkable. With the game, animated series, digital comic series and the movies becoming massive hits, Baahubali has become the first and biggest commercially successful franchise in Indian cinema.
