The National Film Award for Best Feature Film is presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals. Since its inception, Malayalam cinema has come a long way and has been a regular feature in bagging the prestigious National Film Awards. Established in 1954, the National Film Awards are the most prominent film awards in India that felicitates the best of the Indian cinema in various categories. Malayalam cinema has won the National Award for the Best Film on 66 occasions. The first winner of the ‘President’s Silver Medal for Best Feature Film in Malayalam’ went to the film ‘Neelakuyil’ in 1954.
