Venkatesh Is Looking To Bring Back His Glory Days, What About PK?

The mid to late 1990s was a very fascinating period in Telugu Cinema where Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna have seen a dip in their form to an extent and it is when the likes of Venkatesh (till then considered a shade below Chiru, Balayya, and Nag) and Pawan Kalyan pushed themselves to the top of superstar heroes and young star heroes. Funnily both of them have a double hattrick of hits (only actors among the top stars to have that record still since 1990) and have lost their success streak post 2000 despite retaining stardom.

While Venkatesh was the quintessential family hero, Pawan Kalyan has gained a stronghold among the youth. Both of their peaks coincided but Venky reached the double hattrick mark first in 1999 and scored blockbusters rill 2001. After 2001 (Pawan’s double hattrick with Khushi), both of them slowed down and scored hits sporadically. It took Pawan Kalyan nearly a decade since Khushi to deliver an outright blockbuster, he faced multiple failures in between.

Though Venky took even more time to score another blockbuster after Nuvvu Naaku Nachaav, he wasn’t deprived of hits and super hits in between. Just that his transition from a top hero to senior hero was a bit rough. Pawan Kalyan left the industry when he’s in peak (relatively speaking) but is now making a comeback.

Venkatesh meanwhile turned a new leaf in his career and delivered two back to back thumping hits and is in red hot form. With F2, he became the second among senior heroes after Mega Star Chiru to join the 100 Cr. Club while Balayya and Nagarjuna are still struggling. He singlehandedly fended off negative reviews for Venky Mama and made the film a super hit. Currently he’s committed to Narappa which, if the insider talk is to be believed, is an assured super hit.

Wanting to keep this form for long time, Venky is joining hands with Sekhar Kammula for his next. With such a variety of roles, Venkatesh is reminding everyone of the glorious 1990s. For his part, Pawan Kalyan is now returning to films with three interesting projects. Will he aim to continue his streak to bring back glorious days like his good friend Venkatesh is doing? Or is it a last hurrah before leaving cinema for good?

But let’s hope both of them score another double hattrick each for now! What say?
