In Bollywood, an actor’s success rate can be measured by the number of hits, super-hits or blockbusters they have delivered. When an actor starts churning out films that earn a few hundred Crores and increases footfall in the theatres, he gets the star or super-star tag. Their films net collection decides their position in the film industry. However, in the case of the actresses the equation is not that easy.
There shouldn’t be any doubt that Bollywood is a male-centric industry and the same is reflected in the films. Thus, often the leading ladies end up being only the love interest of the male protagonist of the movie. Therefore, many actresses make it to the 400 Crore club when their contribution to the film's box-office remains questionable. However, as the film's box-office decides the fate of the cast, thus, we decided to put all the other concerns aside and focus on the numbers only.
So, let’s try to find out the Indian actresses who have a maximum number of blockbusters under their names. Interestingly, we have five actresses topping the chart with two blockbusters grossing 400 Crores movies in their kitty. Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Kareena Kapoor, and Katrina Kaif quite expectedly hold the top positions.
Surprisingly, former Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim also has two 400 Crore movies to her name – Dangal and Secret Superstar. However, the credit for Dangal becoming all-time biggest hit goes to the film's overall execution and Aamir Khan’s impeccable performance, smart marketing and his popularity in China. Her second film Secret Superstar made it to the list all thanks to Mr. Perfectionist’s unmatched stardom in China.
Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone have ruled Bollywood in this decade. These two talented actresses can be termed as female superstars in Indian cinema. Anushka Sharma featured in two films PK (832.91 Crore) and Sultan (635.29 Crore) – both crossed the 400 Crore mark at the box-office. Although in both the movies she appeared opposite Aamir Khan and Salman Khan respectively, she had significant roles and was never reduced to ‘hero’s love interest’ in these films.
On the other hand, Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat and Chennai Express both crossed 400 Cr milestone earning 585 Crore and 421.17 Crore respectively. Interestingly, she is the only actress in the list who managed to achieve the feat with a female centric film - Padmaavat. In Chennai Express she was paired up opposite Shahrukh Khan and made her presence noticed.
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Katrina Kaif also share the top position in the 400 club position. However, even after being immensely talented, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s films in the list don’t do justice to her acting skills. She was hardly noticeable in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. We loved her in 3 Idiots but that film became an iconic name due to teamwork. Kareena had a small yet significant role there. Katrina Kaif managed to make it to the list with not-so-significant roles in Tiger Zinda Hai (565.17 Cr) opposite Salman Khan and Dhoom 3 (556 Cr) opposite Aamir Khan.
Not only Bollywood divas, two beauties from South India also made it big with 400 Cr+ box-office. Tamannah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty achieved the feat for Bahubali and Bahubali 2. Between these two, Anushka managed to leave a mark for her performance and stood out in this multi-starrer magnam-opus. However, same cannot be said about Tamannah.
Apart from these five leading ladies, there are a few Bollywood and Tollywood actresses who crossed the threshold of 400 Crore mark. Here are the Indian actresses with the highest number of 400 plus Cr. grossers. We assure, you won’t be able to predict their names. Check out the list.
