2020 can be divided into two parts for Telugu Cinema. The first two months saw a couple of all time blockbusters - Sarileru Neekevvaru and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo - breaking every sort of record left right and centre. And then there's a lull. Breaking the numbness, two more films - Bheeshma and Hit - creating ripples in the mid-range markets in two polar opposite genres.
That's it. Then it's all about OTTs. Pandemic dominated the conversations. Mobility of people reduced. Lockdown closed theatres which are in no position to operate full scale till another 4-6 months. As usual with every year, alongside blockbusters and successful films came the ultimate disappointments. What can you make out of World Famous Lover starring none other than the reigning prince of romance - Vijay Deverakonda?
Ravi Teja's Disco Raja for all its innovative merits flattered to deceive with its routinish second half. But the greatest disappointment is Miss India. A supreme lesson on how not to make a feature film - especially with a lady superstar in making, Keerthy Suresh.
Of course, disappointments and failures are common. But we have left out films that might have failed but scored points in other ways like V the Movie starring Natural Star Nani - it's a blockbuster for the producer and a commercial success to the OTT. Keerthy Suresh's Penguin might be an almighty disappointment but did well with North Indian Audience who made it a commercial success for the OTT.
