Bollywood is done with its first half of the year of 2017 and its time to look back at the films which got the audiences thumbs up and thumbs down. The first half of 2017 saw more than 85 Bollywood movies releasing at the box-office and as expected many were disappointments and a handful of few successes. The only silver lining in the otherwise dull 2017 so far has been undoubtedly, ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ which wrote box-office history or should we say- ‘continues to write box-office history’ as the blockbuster is not yet done with its theatrical run and made the list of Bollywood Movies Highest Box Office Collections despite being a south Indian production. We look at Highest Grossing Bollywood Movies In 2017 so far.

  1. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (28 April) – 1760 Cr Worldwide

    ‘Baahubali 2’ wrote history in Indian cinema and became the Top Worldwide Grosser In 2017. Be it Bollywood box-office, Tollywood box-office, Kollywood box-office or Mollywood box-office, it was a clear winner on every front from day 1. Director SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus made on a budget of 250 Cr, shattered all previous Indian box-office records and set a new benchmark for itself. The film broke all Indian Box Office Records

  2. Judwaa 2 - 205 Crore*

    'Judwaa 2' is the sequel to the 1997 film 'Judwaa' starring Salman Khan which was directed by David Dhawan. This sequel is also directed by Dhawan and stars his son Varun Dhawan along with Jacqueline Fernandez and Tapsee Pannu in the lead roles. The film is one of the most successful films of the year, earning 205 Crores and still running strong at the box office.

  3. Raees (25 January) – 263 Cr Worldwide

    Made on a budget of nearly 85 Cr, the Rahul Dholakia directorial 'Raees' despite barring a few hiccups finally got a Republic Day release and became one of the Top Bollywood Grossers of the year. The Shahrukh Khan starrer was a hit but nowhere close to the blockbusters he’s known to deliver. But overall, King Khan would’ve heaved a sigh of relief especially after his ‘Fan’ failed to run last year at the box-office. Now all eyes shift to his upcoming Imtiaz Ali film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ which releases in August this year.

  4. Jolly LLB 2 (10 February) – 190 Cr Worldwide

    Akshay Kumar’s ‘Jolly LLB 2’ was made on a budget of around 45 Cr and was released around 3600 screens across India. Though the sequel to director Subhash Kapoor’s much successful ‘Jolly LLB’ was plagued by a few judiciary issues before its release but the comedy courtroom drama had the last laugh giving yet another entry to Akshay Kumar's 100 Crore Club.

  5. Badrinath Ki Dulhania (10 March) - 190 Cr Worldwide

    This Shashank Khaitan directorial produced by Karan Johar was the sequel to the much successful ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ which also had Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ was made on an estimated budget of 42 Cr and was released around 3000 screens across India. The romantic comedy got the lead pair another 100-Cr hit into their kitty. This film is one of Varun Dhawan's Top Bollywood Movies.

  6. Tubelight (23 June) – 178* Cr Worldwide

    Made on a budget of nearly 100 Crore and released in nearly 9000 screens the Eid release 'Tubelight' has somewhat disappointed Salman Khan fans. Running in its second week, the Kabir Khan directorial had grossed an overall collection to 178.36 crores at the worldwide box-office, so far when last reports came in.

    Made on a budget of 60 Cr, producer Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’ was a quickie made to salvage Hrithik’s box-office position after the debacle of ‘Mohenjo Daro’ last year. ‘Kaabil’ though clashed with ‘Raees’ on the same day, it did equally good business and gave junior Roshan the much-needed respite.

  9. Hindi Medium (19 May) - 89 Cr Worldwide

    Directed by Saket Chaudhary, this Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar starrer made on a budget of 23 Cr turned out to be the 7th highest earner of 2017, so far. ‘Hindi Medium’ didn’t just touch upon a sensitive social issue of school admissions but also served as an eye-opener to many parents. The film earned nearly 70 Cr in the domestic markets whereas the remaining came from overseas.

  10. Half Girlfriend (19 May) - 80 Cr Worldwide

    Based on writer Chetan Bhagat’s same novel, ‘Half Girlfriend’ directed by Mohit Suri got off to a good start but couldn’t sustain itself in front of the ‘Baahubali 2’ typhoon which was at its peak. Released in around 2500 screens pan India and made on a budget of 48 crores, the Arjun Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer ended up being a plus film for its makers by earning about 61 Cr from Indian markets and 19 Cr from overseas.

    'Baadshaho' directed by Milan Luthria is a period action drama which stars an ensemble cast of Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta, Ileana D'Cruz, Sanjay Mishra and Vidyut Jamwal in the lead roles. It told the story of a queen in the emergency perios of India who's gold has been confiscated by the Indian Government and she recruits two goons to get it back. The film managed to earb 78.1 Crores at the box office.

    Directed by James Erskine and released in Hindi, English, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu languages, simultaneously, this biopic documentary made on famous cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar was a gainer in terms of box-office collections. Made on a budget of 30 Cr, ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’ got to release on 1100 screens pan India and made a decent collection of 50.81 Cr India and 19 Cr overseas, respectively.

  14. Phillauri (24 March) - 40 Cr Worldwide

    Actress turned producer Anushka Sharma’s second production venture, ‘Phillauri’ was made on a budget of 21 Cr and just about managed to break-even by selling its satellite rights before its release. The horror-comedy-drama did better business up north than other parts of India for having a Punjabi flavor to it.
