When one speaks of a hero in Indian cinema, there are a few default characteristics he should possess. And the first among them is to be a good guy all through the story. Though the crux of every movie is a battle between good and bad, there haven’t been many instances where the heroes took the negative path to achieve their goals. But, as the cinema started to evolve, the characters got a little closer to reality and hence the negativity in the characters popped out. For some of us these characters might have not gone down well initially, but later on they have remained in our memory as some of the best ones. Let’s go back in the memory lane and look at these famous characters who carried some negative traits but were cool enough to achieve their objectives.

  1. Srikanth - Mahesh

Srikanth has been one of the finest senior actresses of Tollywood but sadly he has been limited to family/romantic movies. For the first time, Posani Krishna Murali has tried to tap the unseen side of Srikanth by roping him to play the lead role in Operation Duryodhana. This film is a political satire and presents the harsh reality of the politics without any filters. Srikanth plays an honest police officer who later turns into a cunning politician and he has surprised the audience with his impeccable performance as the politician. He has received a nomination for the best actor at Filmfare awards 2007.

  2. Nenu - Vinod

Stuck between friendship and love, Allari Naresh in Nenu as Vinod, a psycho lover has been one of the best roles in his career. The unrequited love he is stuck with lands him as a bad boy who goes to the extent of doing anything to gain his love.

  3. Jagadam – Seenu

Though Sukumar’s second venture, Jagadam didn’t perform well at the box office, the character of Seenu stands till date as one of the best in Ram’s career. The character himself wants to be a bad guy and Seenu loved being the baddie in the flick. However, he reforms at the end.

  4. Aarya 2 - Aarya

Though the first serving of Arya too had a few grey shades, it was Arya in Aarya 2 movie who was way meaner as a person. He was selfish, cunning and arrogant in his own way. He did succumb to help his friend, but he very well had the intentions to grab away the girl from his friend he loved equally when he had an opportunity

  5. 100% Love – Balu

Balu very much knows that he is a notch higher than his college mates and thus enjoys being in that position. He is egoistic and never compromises on what he wants. Even when it comes to the niece whom he falls for, he aspires to be the greatest. He doesn’t stand anyone who overtakes him and yet he gets along in winning his niece’s heart by being a guy with negative shades.

  6. Pokiri & Businessman – Pandu & Surya Bhai

Both the roles of Pandu and Surya bhai carried a lot of grey shades. While Pandu was outrageous from the very beginning, Surya Bhai who comes to the city of Mumbai to be a gangster chooses the wrong path to gain control over power. Though both the character's intentions were good within, the path he chooses to fight through is a negative one where each one goes merciless on those who comes their way.

  8. Gabbar Singh – Gabbar Singh

Though Pawan Kalyan as Badri was a bad guy, it was Gabbar Singh that was meaner. The name itself should give you indications the character is tilted towards the negative side, yet we love him because he is the hero. Gabbar is not the usual cop who gives patriotic and sincere speeches; he knows how to handle the bad guys, for he considers himself the worst among all.

  9. Temper – Inspector Daya

Considering himself as the most corrupt cop, Daya doesn’t mind taking bribes and hurting the spirit of his colleagues by setting a bad example. He ties up with the bad guys but only to break loose from them when things really hurt his conscience. He doesn’t transform instantly and completely, he retains his negative features through which he achieves his goals. NTR has given a fantastic performance as Daya in Temper.

  10. Gentleman – Jai Mullapudi

As a mysterious guy, Nani’s portrayal as Jai under the blanket of Gautham was way too impressive. He surprised everyone with his bad boy act and emerged as a winner at the box office. With a confused mind-set of not knowing how to react to the given situations, Nani was spot on. One of the best performances in his career.
