Getting a break in Tollywood is quite a difficult task for the industry is teeming with fresh talent. Although, it takes a lot of time for most people, it takes even more time for upcoming directors as every movie's outcome determines their career's fate. Lack of big names in their films hinder them the most. But, there are some whose career got boosted by stars. As it is quite a difficult task to map out all the stars, we've picked Pawan Kalyan, one of the biggest contemporary Tollywood stars, who has accepted lead roles in the directorials which were helmed by upcoming Telugu directors. To highlight the importance of fresh talent, we've compiled the list of upcoming directors whose ambitions were given wings by Power Star Pawan Kalyan.

  1. Karunakaran

Tholi Prema is a personal favourite of many. Heck, it is even the favourite film of Power Star Pawan Kalyan. The film's story was written & directed by Karunakaran, a nobody who only had polytechnic as his qualification. After spotting Pawan Kalyan's photograph on a magazine at a tea stall, commoner Karuna decided that PK was his hero. After narrating the story, PSPK very enthusiastically agreed to act in his debut directorial. From there, their journey started and it ended very happily for both of them.

  2. P. A. Arun Prasad

Thammudu was quite a blockbuster and it was very close to our daily lives. False prestige, callousness, determination to get a galpal by hook or by crook. All of these feelings were encompassed in Thammudu. It is quite surprising to note that this complex film was directed by a debutante who went to direct many films in other film industries. It is worth mentioning that he went to win a Filmfare for directorial work on Kiccha, a Kannada blockbuster.

  3. Puri Jagannadh

Puri Jagannadh was an assistant director who had the guts to work for Ram Gopal Varma. While working for RGV, Puri conceived two stories. One went to become Badri and the other became Itlu Sravani Subramanyam, both of which were blockbusters. Puri decided to approach PK for he assumed that only he would have the guts to accept such a different story. After meeting him, PSPK gave him a half-hour to narrate some of the story. After listening to first-half itself, our star green-lit the project which made Puri an overnight star.

  4. S. J. Surya

After scoring two huge hits (Vaali & Kushi) in Tamil Cinema, S. J. Surya approached our star and narrated the story of Kushi, which went to become his Telugu directorial debut. After listening to it, Pawan Kalyan confessed that he was avoiding Surya from the fear that he would disappoint him by narrating a boring story. However, Surya impressed him and he said he'd act in the film. Luckily, the film didn't disappoint the audiences as well for it went to become an industry hit.

  5. Veera Shankar

Veera Shankar is the odd one in this list for he is the only one who didn't fly like the others. After directing a forgetful flick titled Prema Kosam, Veera Shankar got his golden opportunity when PSPK offered him the chance to direct Gudumba Shankar. Unfortunately, the film met a disastrous fate. The outcome sealed Veera's career and since then he has been trying to limp back to life.

  6. K. S. Ravindra

    K. S. Ravindra (Bobby), who was a screenwriter, is a relatively unknown director. However, the Mass Maharajah fans would know him for he directed the well-received Power. For reasons unknown, Power grossed only about Rs. 35 crores when it had the potential to gross even more. And it was as if Sardaar was waiting for him to clinch it. Despite being one film old, Power Star entrusted him with the directorial responsibility. However, the movie bombed. Mainly due to an uninteresting screenplay which was penned by Power Star himself.
