Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety Review
Sonu Ke TItu Ke Sweety tells the age-old story of romance vs bromance and Luv Ranjan seems to have mastered this genre of films. Karthik Aaryan plays Sonu, the childhood friend of Titu, played by Sunny Singh. Sonu is always trying to protect the dim-witted Titu from shallow relationships and helps him break up with his girlfriend. But Sonu is shocked when he finds out that Titu has agreed to marry Sweety, played by Nushrat Bharucha, who seems too good to be true.
It is now the battle between Sonu and Sweety, the best friend and the lover for the love of Titu. Karthik Aaryan has played a similar character in his previous outings and has perfect comic timing. The comic timing between Karthik and Sunny Singh seems natural and will make the audience chuckle throughout the film. Nushrat Bharucha also fits in her role perfectly and looks great, especially in the songs. The three have great chemistry, having worked together in the past and this can easily be seen on the screen.
Alok Nath plays the role of Titu's grandfather and his best friend is played by Virendra Saxena, both of whom have been cast in roles that are completely opposite to what they have played before and this will delight the audience. Ayesha Raza in the role of the mother also does a praiseworthy job.
Luv Ranjan’s direction is perfect for this kind of a film and he manages to get a good performance from his actors. But, he has also written the story and the plot seems outdated and has been done in many films before, including his own Pyaar Ka Punchnama series. He has used background music like the film was a television soap opera and has inserted montages of Sweety and Sonu going against each other with Titu helplessly stuck in the middle.
In a time where Bollywood is making meaningful films that are also working towards woman empowerment, Luv Ranjan goes back to his style of story writing where men have to stick up for each other because the woman is always wrong. It can only be hoped that he moves on from this concept and makes films on other interesting storylines after this film.
The background music of the film by Rochak Kohli is blaringly loud and takes the attention away from the scene at sometimes, despite having the opposite goal. The songs of the film, though, are blockbuster hits. Honey Singh has made a comeback to Bollywood with a bang with this film and the soundtrack of the film is topping the charts everywhere. Despite having remakes of three songs, the music seems fresh and will keep the audience entertained.
Verdict: Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is a comedy and nothing else should be expected from it. Neverthelesss, it is an entertaining watch.
