He played a loveable playboy. He’s the de facto romantic hero for a couple of generations and is the Cupid who stole the hearts of girls and women. He was the new-age action hero who was part of the film that changed the perspective of Telugu Cinema. And he even played the roles of devotees (Annamayya) with equal aplomb as the romantic roles (Ninne Pelladuta). Yes! We’re talking about King Nagarjuna - one of the most versatile artistes of the modern Telugu Cinema.
There are roles which can be played by effective actors. But a few of them nail them to such an extent that we think the actors are irreplaceable. But there are roles, that can never be played by others. They are meant to be done by a single person. And only that single person can play such roles. The roles are meant only for them.
Can you imagine any actor of that or this generation pull a cycle chain with the same untamed intensity like Akkineni Nagarjuna did in Shiva? Not even Nagarjuna can repeat that. Manmadhudu and Nagarjuna are meant for each other. Can anyone pull it off? Can you imagine any other actor in that role? Not even in delirium.
