We all love sequels. It is the perfect opportunity to watch our favorite characters back in action in a new plot. And there is no shortage of sequels in Malayalam films as well. The truth is that we all pin a lot of hopes when a sequel is announced. Our expectations skyrocket with the new movie, and most of the times, the second part or the third part or even the fourth in the series, delivers to our expectations. Take case of the 'CBI' series or 'Dasan & Vijayan' series or the 'Harihar Nagar' series, all the films in these franchises met the imagination of the audience and are highly popular films. But this is not the case of all the sequels. Some series continuation movies, make us feel like why it was ever made? Chances are that they even ruin the previous movie for us. So, here we are talking about such 13 worst sequels made in Malayalam cinema which ruined the fun and were more of a trainwreck. Scroll down to find out which are those 'distinguished' sequels which shouldn't have been made.

  • Honey Bee 2: Celebrations [2017]

Honey Bee 2: Celebrations mark the return of good friends Angel and Sebastian who are becoming a couple after they realise that their relationship is more than just friendship. The original movie was a mass entertainer. But its sequel lacked the depth and is irritatingly serious. The only saving grace of the sequel was the lavish display of wedding attire and arrangements.

  • Samrajyam II: Son Of Alexander [2015]

“Why in God's name was it ever made?”, this was the question in everyone’s mind, those who watched this complete trainwreck. The movie was an unbefitting sequel to Samrajyam, which gave us Alexander, one of the best dons in Malayalam cinema. Audience had high hopes from the movie but nothing got delivered. Other than wrecking Unni Mukundan’s career, this movie didn’t achieve anything much.

  • Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 [2014]

Thanks to director Mamas, we were made to watch a disastrous third installment in the celebrated Ramji Rao series. Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 is the movie that no one would love to associate with the totally epic characters of Gopalakrishnan, Balakrishnan and Mannar Mathai. It was bringing all the characters and even their children from the first two movies, which resulted in a total mess of storyline. The movie totally failed to recreate even an ounce of excitement and enjoyment that we got watching Ramji Rao Speaking and Mannar Mathai Speaking.

  • Geethaanjali [2013]

Return of Dr. Sunny from Manichitrathazhu was the highlight of 2013 Priyadarshan movie Geethaanjali. But it was totally not a worthy return for one of Mohanlal's most cherished characters. This movie, which was called a horror thriller, failed miserably to shock the audience. The only shock they got was to realize that it was a waste of their ticket money. If the movie is to be remembered, then it will be for introducing Keerthy Suresh into films.

  • The King & The Commissioner [2012]

The stakes and expectations were at an unparalleled high when The King & The Commissioner hit the screens. It was the return of Mammootty's most popular character, Joseph Alex Thevalliparambil IAS and the third entry to Suresh Gopi's extremely admired character Bharath Chandran IPS. But the movie was nothing less than a disaster in waiting. It was basically the old wine in new bottle, which tasted even worse. All the power packed dialogue sequences didn't add anything to the movie, though it helped a lot to improve our English vocabulary. Thanks to screenwriter Renji Panicker for that.

  • Uppukandam Brothers Back In Action [2011]

Upon watching certain movies, you feel like why it was ever made. Uppukandam Brothers Back In Action is one of those films. When Uppukandam Brothers first came on screen in 1993, it was a big hit. Even without having top stars in the cast, the movie was accepted by the audience. But the sequel was a complete failure which even ruined the first movie, for many.

  • August 15 [2011]

The character of Crime Branch officer Perumal in August 1? is one of Mammootty's most popular police characters. And the hopes were high when Shaji Kailas announced a sequel to it. But, August 15 failed to connect with those hopes and it missed the mark. Megastar as the one man army cop was in his full form but the story wasn't giving him the support he needed. This movie is the least worst in this list but still it was not a worthy sequel.

  • Ninnishtam Ennishtam 2 [2011]

If you haven't heard of this movie or don't remember such a sequel, then its totally not your fault and is exactly why it is in the list of worst sequels made in Malayalam cinema. Ninnishtam Ennishtam was a musical romantic drama which made the audience cry a lot, back in 1986. Yes, it was a spin off of the charlie Chaplin movie City Lights but it was brilliantly conceived and executed. But the same can't be said about Ninnishtam Ennishtam 2. Though Mohanlal never acted in this movie, his scenes from the first film were taken, in an attempt to make you nostalgic but it ended up in a total disaster.

  • Again Kasargod Khader Bhai [2010]

Again Kasargod Khader Bhai was the sequel to Mimics Parade and Kasargod Khader Bhai. The movie, which was made as a comedy murder mystery was a big tragedy for the audience. Though mimicry was part of the core theme, the whole movie felt more like a mockery. No need to say that, it hardly ran in theaters.

  • Kandahar [2010]

Watch the 1996 Hollywood movie Executive Decision and you will find Major Ravi's source of inspiration for creating a flight hijacking movie. The flight sequences were a ditto copy of the English movie and to make it worse was that it was poorly executed. Kandahar is not one to be remembered for ever, even though it was the Malayalam debut of Amitabh Bachchan. This was the third installment in the Major Mahadevan series and only good it did was to make the second movie in the series (Kurukshetra), feel like less of a let down.

  • Senior Mandrake [2010]

1997 movie, Junior Mandrake, didn't had a star studded cast but the movie carried a fresh plot and audience accepted it. The movie was super fun to watch. But, the 2010 sequel was all but not that. Senior Mandrake did ruin the previous movie for many. Even though all most all the characters were reprised and the new talents in comedy were pushed into the plot, the movie ended being a big disaster.

  • Kilukkam Kilukilukkam [2006]

If Kilukkam Kilukilukkam is not a trainwreck, then nothing is. Taking one of cult classic comedies in Malayalam and ruining it to the core was what happened with this sequel ok Kilukkam. When the project was announced everyone expected a laughter riot but upon watching the movie, every emotion except laughter came for the audience. Even Mohanlal's guest appearance was bleak and totally missed the mark.

  • Balram vs. Tharadas [2006]

It is rare to see the continuation of two popular characters, that too of the same actor, in a single movie. Mammootty came as two of his most popular characters, police officer Balram and underworld don Tharadas. Everyone expected the movie to be a total entertainer with a full-on mass appeal, especially with Katrina Kaif making her Mollywood debut. But, Balram vs. Tharadas fell heavily short of audience expectations and a big let down to all those, who were eager to watch a mesmerizing sequel.
