On April 28, India's most maverick director, SS Rajamouli will give us the answer to the most sought after question of, 'Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali?'. That is the day when the second part of the Prabhas starrer epic duology, Baahubali: The Conclusion, hits the screens across the world. When a movie on such an epic proportion is made, the producers normally have to wait for some time to officially declare that the movie has given profit to them. And that too when their investment on the duology is around Rs. 450 crores! But, producer Shobu Yarlagadda of Arka Mediaworks, has already declared that Baahubali 2 and the Baahubali franchise is profitable for them! But, how? Scroll down and find out the 6 reasons that make him say so.

  1. Revenue from 'Baahubali: The Beginning'

Baahubali: The Beginning was a real gamble when looked from the side of the producers. The movie was made and released on a scale which was never tried before in Indian cinema history. And recently they made it clear that Baahubali 1 wasn't profitable for them. But, it laid the perfect platform to make a huge profit from the franchise. This is because the trade analysts have clocked the worldwide share of Baahubali at Rs. 600 crores! But only, Rs. 250 crores of this came to the producers, thus making the movie more profitable to the distributors. This came in as a blessing in disguise, as producers were able to ask for record amounts for distributor rights, in every region.

  2. Producers’ share of ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’

With the first part of Baahubali duology scoring an unparalleled success in the history of Indian cinema, the trade analysts are expecting crazy-high figures as the producers' share from Baahubali 2. As per the latest report, the producers are expected to get a share of anywhere between Rs. 400 - 500 crores from the second part. This includes the theatrical share, distributor rights, satellite rights, merchandise, endorsements and much more. Comparing that to the overall budget of Rs. 450 crores (for both parts), the producers are already in huge profit.

  3. North American (US) Release

Generally, the biggest market for an Indian movie, especially Telugu movie, is the North American region or the US market. Last time, the distributor rights of this region was sold for $ 4 million. And the movie's distributor share in North America was a whopping $ 9 million. This time, the distributor rights went to a different party, Great Indian Films. And they paid $ 7 million for the rights. Trade expectation is that Baahubali 2 will collect $ 15 million, thus breaking the current record of highest grosser in this market. Current record holder is Aamir Khan starrer Dangal, which collected $ 12.3 million.

  4. Distribution rights of Indian market

Coming to the case of distributor rights in the Indian market, the producers went for new distributors in every territory, other than for the Hindi version in North India and the Malayalam version in Kerala. The Hindi version will be distributed by Karan Johar and Anil Thadani jointly through Dharma Productions and AA Films. While the distributor in Kerala is Global United Media (GUM). Association with Karan Johar has resulted in an increased brand value for the franchise in the Hindi speaking region, while GUM paid a record price to retain the distributor rights. Reports are that they paid Rs. 11.45 crores just for the Kerala rights! This proves the other reports that the producers received record amount in every region.
