The name Auto Johnny has an iconic status in the cult of Mega Star Chiranjeevi and his fandom. The second role in the film Rowdy Alludu, has become a mass hero of gigantic proportions. When Chiranjeevi was planning a comeback, this was one of the titles that were in circulation. Dashing director Puri Jagannadh narrated Chiru a story with this title. Though Chiru liked it and a few rumours spread out saying this would be his 150th film, things quickly changed later and out came Khaidi No. 150.
The reason Auto Johnny didn’t materialise was that Chiranjeevi suggested a few changes to the second half of the story (a familiar one nowadays with many of Chiru’s shelved projects) and in the meanwhile he chose a safe project. Not very long ago, Auto Johnny cropped up in the news once again saying that Chiru will join hands with Puri Jagannadh after Acharya if Lucifer remake gets postponed or fails to take off.
Now once again the movie is in the conversations of Film Nagar and the talk is: Chiru was really excited by the story idea of the mass Masala entertainer and now wants Ram Charan to do it in his stead. Chiru felt that the energetic role better be performed by a younger star than himself and Ram Charan is the perfect fit for it.
As Ram Charan hasn’t confirmed any projects after RRR, is it plausible that he will be doing this film with Puri Jagannadh who himself is currently busy with a pan-India film starring Vijay Deverakonda. If Auto Johnny indeed materialises, it’ll lead to the glory days of commercial Telugu cinema once again when Chiranjeevi was at the peak of his powers. Chiru is expected to play an interesting cameo in the movie.
