Director Nag Ashwin, who delivered unconventional films like Yevade Subramanyam (coming-of-age philosophical drama) and Mahanati (a biopic of the legendary yesteryear star actress Savitri) has made his OTT debut with Netflix's debut Telugu anthology series Pitta Kathalu. He directed the part xLife, a sci-fi drama that deals with virtual reality and data controlling. The world of xLife built by a young coder named Vik deals with a dystopian future, where people get addicted to virtual reality and live in a dream world outweighing the love, emotions, and most importantly their real lives. It also tells how the corporate giants (social platforms) are manipulating our data. Throughout the series, Vik refrains that he is not compelling people to join xLife, which can directly apply to the current scenario that no social media platform is compelling its users to spend hours on social media. However, the series is underwhelming.
And whoever has seen this anthology is worried about rumors going rife that Nag-Ashwin's upcoming sci-fi drama with Rebel Star Prabhas will be an extended version of xLife. But, much to the relief of everyone, there is no truth in these reports. Nag Ashwin himself mentioned that both the stories are different.
This yet-to-be-titled project also starring Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles is currently in the pre-production stage. Veteran director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is also onboard to supervise the direction of this sci-fi thriller.
