OTTs have been ruling the roost ever since the Covid-19 pandemic hit Indian Cinema (and of course world cinema too) hard and lockdown was implemented. With the theatres closed and no sight of them in near future, even star heroes are turning to the streaming options.
That the superstar of Indian Cinema, Akshay Kumar who was kn a streak of 13 consecutive box office hits had given his nod to release his latest film Laxmmi Bomb which was a potential Rs. 200 Cr. Club (India Nett) entry otherwise in normal conditions tells a story! But Akshay Kumar being Akshay Kumar, the film was sold for a huge profit to DisneyPlus HotStar for a whopping Rs. 120 Cr. This, apart from pet-view option after clocking a fixed number of hours of watch time.
And as this is Akshay Kumar’s film - a horror comedy at that, the Raghava Lawrence directorial starring Kiara Advani the satellite rights fetched another bomb - Rs. 107.75 Cr. With this, the total revenue generated by this film stands at 227.75 Cr. But wisely, the makers made sure the film is completed in a moderate budget (with Akki taking a share from the profits) of Rs. 40 Cr., (including other expenses - also, no publicity costs as its lockdown) the total profits for Laxmmi Bomb stand at Rs. 187.75 Cr.
This ensures, Akshay Kumar scoring another blockbuster and his now box office hit streak stands at 14. He’s now just 3 films short of breaking the record of Rajesh Khanna’s 17 consecutive hits. Laxmmi Bomb which is an official remake of Raghava Lawrence’s own Muni 2: Kanchana. The film deals with transgender’s and the problems they face as the background framework for a typical masala comedy horror.
