Star heroes are always associated with multiple projects at a time but nowadays are doing only one film at a time. There used to be a time when directors like Dasari Narayana Rao and Kodi Ramakrishna used to do 2 or 3 films at a time working in three shifts. But those days are long gone and if a director could do one film a year that itself is a big achievement.
Even those filmmakers whose last films are blockbusters have to wait for their next film to start at least a couple of years as big actors are signing films for at least three years in advance. We have seen it took 2 years for Sukumar to start the pre-production of his next film after Rangasthalam. Super successful director Maruthi couldn’t say when he will get a film after the blockbuster like Prathi Roju Pandage.
But there is the other side of the coin. Filmmakers like Koratala Siva and Prashanth Neel are lining up and announcing multiple projects even though their current projects aren’t even in regular shoots. Add to that there’s this COVID-19 pandemic. While a portion of KGF: Chapter 2 is still pending, Prashanth Neel has been working on NTR’s film. He even gave the actor a narration and received cursory nod. Koratala too announced a film with Bunny well in advance even though there’s no sight of the starting of Acharya shoot.
Moreover, both the actors have committed films with other directors after their current ones. So, Koratala and Prasanth couldn’t start their next films at least until late 2022. Is it over enthusiasm or insecurity of losing the star actors? Whatever may be the reason, it may create problems if their current projects get negative results.
