One of the topics of discussion across India currently is the rise of Andhra Pradesh CM Elect Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, popularly known as Jagan. Leaving aside the landslide victory in the AP Assembly Elections in 2019 which he attributed to the combination of anti-incumbency and the hope he had created among the masses, it is the way he fought his way to power through sheer grit has become the talk of the town.
Adding to this, the article, Sonia’s Insult, Reddys’ Revenge, Curse of Andhra: Jagan’s Rise is Filmier Than Fiction, written by the noted journalist DP Satish for News18 titled has gone viral.
Despite facing severe odds, he not only had to stand against the most powerful Sonia Gandhi and then the entire media in Andhra Pradesh for about 10 years, but he sided himself with people and won their trust as a capable leader who could take the newly formed state forward.
This article caught the attention of acclaimed Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap. He posted on his Twitter timeline saying: This is a brilliant film waiting to be made...
This indeed is a big statement that led to speculations that Kashyap might be interested in making a film on the life of Jagan. The other day, Mahi V. Raghav, the man who directed the successful biopic of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (Yatra starring Mollywood Megastar Mammootty as YSR), Jagan's father and the late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has revealed his intentions to make Yatra 2 (a YS Jagan biopic as a sequel of Yatra) documenting Jagan's rise as a politician a couple of years down the line. The title surely indicates both YS Jagan Odarpu Yatra and Padayatra.
Whether or not these films, Anurag Kashyap's version of Jaganmohan Reddy biopic especially, materialize one cannot help but agree that Jagan's journey from being the son of a Chief Minister to himself becoming people's leader fighting against insurmountable odds make for a riveting film. Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap's statement is getting unanimous thumbs up.
It will be interesting to see who will make the first move and make the biopic of Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
