Born on the 25th February, 1973, director Gautham Menon doesn’t need any introduction when it comes to Tamil cinema. A director to reckon with, who wielded the megaphone for the first time with the runaway Tamil hit, ‘Minnale’, set the tone for his other films as well. He has made a mark for himself not only in Tamil but also in Hindi and Telugu films also, even though most of them were remakes of his Tamil films. His portrayal of characters in his films speak volumes about the knowledge and sensitivities he possesses. His female leads are more than just caricatures or decorative pieces. He portrays them with utmost care and a certain sensuality with a simple and beautiful portrayal. we look at the way he has captured and presented some of his stunning female leads.

  1. Megha Akash (Enai Noki Paayum Thota)

Megha Akash grabbed the luck opportunity to work with Gautham Menon for her very first film, Enai Noki Paayum Thota in which Dhanush played her co-star. Though the movie was supposed to hit the screens in 2017, it got postponed multiple times. Meanwhile, Megha Akash has signed a couple of Telugu movies with Nithin and made her debut with the Telugu movie LIE.

  2. Samantha (Neethaane En Ponvasantham)

Though not so successful as his earlier films, Gautham still managed to portray the character of Nithya, played by Samantha, in a simple way which came across as a breath of fresh air. With multiple shades and emotions lended to her character Samantha, yet again played a middle-class ambitious girl who is always at loggerheads with Jiiva before finally gettting together with him in the film.

  3. Trisha (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa & Yennai Arindhaal)

Trisha who played Jessie opposite Simbu in ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’ and Hemanika opposite Ajith in ‘Yennai Arindhaal’, respectively looked her best when it came to Gautham Menon’s direction. Playing Hemanika looked more challenging than Jessie as she got to play a mother as well as a lover at the same time. In both films she came out triumphant.

  4. Sameera Reddy (Vaaranam Aayiram)

Though Sameera played the third lead in this Gautham Menon flick she managed to get noticed as Meghana, the character she played. She provided all the oomph and glamour to the film which was partially shot in the US. The dance sequences with Suriya had Sameera looking as ravishing as ever.

Kamalinee played Kayalvizhi Raghavan in this Kamal Haasan thriller where Kamal is smitten by her charm during a marriage function where he happens to propose her. Gautham captured the innocence and simplicity of Kayalvizhi beautifully where she wears some of the most beautiful sarees on screen.

  6. Jyothika (Kaakha Kaakha & Pachaikili Muthucharam)

Jyothika played Maya in Gautham Menon’s cop thriller, ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ where she is smitten by Suriya’s persona as a fearless cop. Jyothika was portrayed as a simple middle-class urban girl with small dreams which are cut short by the antagonist in the film. In ‘Pachaikili Muthucharam’ she seduces and traps Sarathkumar to extort money thru an acquaintance of her. A remake of the Hollywood thriller ‘Derailed’ and Emraan Hashmi’s ‘The Train’, Jyothika was at the sensuous best with negative shades to her character.
