Factors Behind T-Town Director Koratala Siva's Victory Hat-Trick

All three movies of Koratala smashed records at the box office. Though his stories are hardly unheard of, it is his treatment of the story that is entirely different. Many directors do not risk narrating the movie at a slow pace to establish the story but Koratala takes enough time to establish the point he is trying to convey. In an interview, he said that he won't be directing any remakes and he would be directing movies with the fresh subjects that are written by him. Having a great experience as a scriptwriter, he knows exactly how to pitch a story.

‘Mirchi', ‘Srimanthudu' and ‘Janatha Garage' featured star heroes of Tollywood. Prabhas in ‘Mirchi', Mahesh in ‘Srimanthudu' and NTR in ‘Janatha Garage' are apt for their respective silver screen characters. He prefers to work with star heroes as they are easier to work with. Also, they are quite choosy when it comes to script selection. This choosiness is the first affirmation that his script has high chances of being successful. Hence, he prefers to cast only star heroes in his flicks. He also has a knack for showing an unseen side of those stars which the people have not seen before on-screen. With his upcoming movie featuring Mahesh, one can expect the maverick to deliver a blockbuster yet again.

When it comes to the technical aspects of the movie making, he doesn't compromise on hiring the best. His first movie two movies ‘Mirchi' and ‘Sirmanthudu' had R Madhie as the cinematographer, who is well known in the Tamil movie industry. Both the films were grand on visual aspects. Cinematographer Tirru did the DOP for ‘Janatha Garage' which is yet another visual treat. Additionally, stunt director Anal Arasu, lyricist Ramajogayya Sastry, art director A.S. Prakash and editor Kotagri Venkateshwara Rao are seen in all his movies. When quizzed about hiring the best technicians, he said, ''I don't know much about the technical aspects so I take the best so that I don't have to worry about those aspects''. His approach seems to have worked well as all his three movies were technically flawless.

Koratala does not rush to release too many movies in short period of time. He carefully plans his cast and crew. With his long experience in the industry, he knows the risk of rushing into a venture. After the success of his first movie he took a gap of 2 years to release his next film ‘Srimanthudu'. ‘Jantha Garage' came one year after ‘Srimanthudu'. He is said to have 10 scripts ready, out of which 3 have been used.

Koratala has experience at scripting as he has learned from the giants in the industry and delivered great scripts like ‘Bhadra'. He has worked with Posani Murali Krishna as his assistant. More than the story, his impeccable scripting skills brought things together for the movies. As director and writer, he knows what exactly he wants and with his experience his builds great scripts that are crisp and fresh.

This aspect makes Koratala stand out from all his contemporaries. His movies carry a moral nugget to ponder upon when you leave the theatre. ‘Mirchi' came with a message of ‘love all' and ‘Srimanthudu' arrived with a message to serve the people in need. Koratala believes in the not just entertaining audience for 2 and half hours but giving them a message to follow, something that they see in everyday life and something that they can connect to. Even in ‘Janatha Garage' he highlighted the work of the environmentalists.

Usually movies which concentrate on conveying a moral story tend to become boring. But Koratala's approach is different. By using the ample commercial elements, he conveys the message. Star heroes, gorgeous heroines, emotional family sentiments, high octane action sequences and enough comedy sequences are his style of movie making. He doesn't compromise on any of these aspects which makes the movie a wholesome entertainer.

One liners play a major role in stealing the attention of the audience. Coming from a writing background Koratala has a thing for epic one liners. The simple lines delivered by the hero elevates the whole scene. He is a magician in writing catchy and unforgettable one-liners​.

Siva's movies have strong supporting cast, all three movies featured 3 biggest actors other than the hero such as Sathyaraj in ‘Mirchi', Jagapathi Babu in ‘Srimanthudu' and ‘Mohanlal' in ‘Janatha Garage'. A strong supporting character makes a big difference in the movie. Apart from these, popular actors like Sai Kumar, Rajendra Prasad, Sampath Raj and Nadhiya are featured in his movies. Siva has his own style of casting these legendary actors in a special manner.

Music for all his three movies was composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Almost all the songs turned out to be chartbusters. The lyrics were penned by Ramjyogayya Sashtry, which received applause from the audience and critics. The music albums are a composition of melodious, rocking and situational songs. Also, one song from each movie has a moral message which is related to the story of the movie.
