He is only one film old but his name is getting considered as the next big thing of the industry. Jawker Dhan director Sayantan Ghoshal's second film Alinagarer Golokdhadha is set to release on April 20th. The trailer has already grabbed attention for its interesting and engaging premise. The promo has gained positive feedback from the industry biggies as well. After the success of the debut film, will Alinagarer Golokdhadha be able to repeat the success story or it will surpass his previous film? What is the film all about and how this is going to appeal his audience? The young director gets candid in an exclusive interview with Pycker.
This is your second film. You are back with another treasure hunt after Jawkher Dhan. Is it a planned move?
No. It wasn't intentional at all. Things just fall into places and It just happened.
Your first film was also a treasure hunt drama just like Alinagarer Golokdhahda. What is the difference between Jawkher Dhan and Alinagarer Golokdhadha?
Jawker Dhan and Alinagarer Golokdhahda both revolve around a treasure hunt and the similarity ends here. Jawkher Dhan was more about mystery elements, it was more of a fantasy story while my next film explores and focuses on the history of Bengal. It is closer to the reality. Alinagarer Golokdhadha has an interesting emotional journey. Here every character has an emotional arc. They all achieve something more than just a treasure by the end of the story. You have to see it in the theatre.
Nowadays filmmakers are coming up with movie franchise? And we all know Bengali audience enjoys watching adventure stories. Are you planning something similar?
There is no such plan for now. Till now we have planned it as a stand-alone film. However, you never know what happens in future. Everything depends on audience's reaction.
As you said the film will explore the history of Bengal. What research went into the script?
We did our research work for two years before making the final draft. Actually, Alinagarer Golokdhadha could have been my first film. But, we realized more character development is required. We worked on each character so that they can be more fleshed out. Sougata, the scriptwriter has done a tremendous job who did most of the research work.
You worked with Anirban Bhattacharya before in the web series Byomkesh. How different was it to director Anirban for Alinagarer Golokdhahda?
I met Anirban on the set of Byomkesh and we planned to work together in Alinagarer Golokdhadha on day 3rd. I thought we can exploit Anirban as an actor in other ways as well. The most important part of our discussion was how different Byomkesh and Soham in Alinagarer Golokdhadha should be. We stressed the point so that Anirban has a strikingly different look, mannerism, and body-language in Alinagarer Golokdhadha which will distinguish Soham from his Byomkesh avatar.
What is your next project?
My next film will be a comedy. Hopefully, I will go on the floor with it soon.
