Indian cinema has become poorer with the deaths of Irfan Khan and Sushant Singh in the matter of a few months. While one was an accomplished actor who rose from rags to riches of international fame, the other one is still a starry-eyed youngster who is delivering solid films every year. Sushant has a lot of future and from what’s unearthed about his off-screen talents post his tragically mysterious death, it’s tough not to get our eyes wet.
His last film before he left us was Chhichhore which was a blockbuster. And his posthumously released Dil Bechara hit the OTT directly due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. The romantic drama was based on the highly acclaimed and much-loved classic The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Though a theatrical release would have been a great and fitting tribute to the actor, as was expected by his fans who have been fighting for justice for him, the OTT release turned out a wise decision as everyone who loved him could watch the film for free thanks to Disney+ Hotstar’s decision.
Despite this the film turned out to be a blockbuster both for the makers and the OTT platform unlike many Hindi direct OTT releases during this time. Dil Bechara is a first genuine OTT blockbuster for a Bollywood movie.
