2018 is an eventful year in Tamil  Cinema. It has scaled new heights, top stars shined even brighter, new records were broken, and few duds delivered. Leave aside box office number for some time. There was a time when every new releasse was a gem in its own right and Tamil Cinema has scaled unprecedented heights during that period when films like 96, Ratsasan, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Vada Chennai etc. released within few weeks. Critics and fans fondly remember that time for a long time. 

Superstar Rajinikanth has an eventful year. In an amazing way, he has two releases in the same calendar year after a long time. It was he who helped Tamil Cinema plunge forward in box office numbers. The Shankar directorial 2.0 became the first Tamil movie to become an Rs. 300 crore grosser and went on to gross around Rs. 800 crores (numbers still awaited).

But it was Vijay Sethupathi who took a giant leap forward by acting in a variety of movies and was seen a number of different roles right from cameos to lead roles. Tamil Cinema proved itself to be rich in content by delivering a wide variety of movies which include commercially successful art films. Come on! Keerthy Suresh played the female lead while Yogi Babu has a key role. The movie went on the gross more than Rs. 250 crores and is the second consecutive Vijay movie to do this.

When they meet after 20 years as part of a school reunion event, they spend all the night talking to each other. Trisha made a triumphant return to form with this critically acclaimed commercial success.
