There are many people who say reviews are affecting the results of the films. Several industrywallahs from Telugu Cinema have openly expressed their displeasure about reviews and negative talk spread by the anti-fans. But reviews really affect the fate of the films? Not exactly.
Take, for example, the official Telugu remake of Tamil classic, 96. The Dil Raju’s dream production with Samantha Akkineni and Sharwanand received unanimous positive talk from most sources. Performances are hailed. The film was directed by the original director - C. Ram Kumar himself. He was given a free hand and in his Tollywood debut he did a commendable job and altered the subject subtly to suit Telugu nativity. Despite all these positives, the film failed to make a sound at the box office.
Okay! You may say people loved the original too much and didn’t watch this. Then what about a unique Telugu movie like Anthariksham 9000 KMPH? The first space-film from Telugu Film Industry, directed by Sankalp Reddy of Ghazi fame and starred Mega Prince Varun Tej. Despite being hailed for its accurate portrayal of Space travel and some highly acclaimed performances the movie turned a disaster.
So, success and failure couldn’t be decided just by the critics alone. It’s audience who are the ultimate judges. Let’s conclude this by citing one example. Dashing director Puri Jagannadh’s iSmart starring Ram Pothineni, Nabha Natesh, and Niddhi Agerwal received highly negative reviews from all prominent critics. Did that stop that film from becoming an ultimate record-breaking blockbuster? No. It just connected with the audience.
