With Eid round the corner it’s yet another feast for Salman Khan fans as his film ‘Tubelight’ is up for release this year. The pair of actor Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan are back after giving ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ in 2012 and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in 2015, respectively. The just released teaser of ‘Tubelight’ gives us a sneak peak into what the film might be about, though the trailer is still awaited. By the looks of it, it does look as if the makers have got another winner on their hands but it also gave a dejavu feeling. After seeing the ‘Tubelight’ teaser one can’t help draw similarities between the former and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. We managed to come up with a few similarities between ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Tubelight’, how many were you able to strike? Find out below…

  1. Salman's Character

One couldn’t help comparing the two characters that Salman plays in both the films. His character in ‘Tubelight’ is almost a replica of the character he played in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ which is that of a simpleton. He played Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi alias ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ there whereas here he plays Laxman alias Tubelight. People call him tubelight as his character is a bit slow to register and understand things happening around him. His character seems an extension of what he did in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.

  2. Story Premise

The story premise of 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'Tubelight' seem to be the same. The former’s story revolved around three characters, namely – Salman Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Harshaali Malhotra, whereas the latter too revolves around three principal characters - Salman Khan, his brother Sohail Khan and the child artist from China Matin Rey Tangu. The basic premise of both the stories is also about the transformation of Salman Khan’s character.

  3. Neighbouring Country Backdrop

One can’t help spot another similarity between Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tubelight which have a neighbouring country as its backdrop. In Bajrangi Bhaijaan it was the neighbouring country Pakistan where the girl belonged to whereas in Tubelight the boy belongs to the neighbouring country of China. It’s the 60’s Sino-India war backdrop that Tubelight is set against whereas Bajrangi Bhaijaan is set upon the ever-growing cross-border tension between India and Pakistan.

  4. Child Artiste Character

How can we forget the charming Harshaali Malhotra (Munni) the child artiste in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' who stole our hearts as the deaf and mute girl? The girl was in almost every frame with Salman Khan as the whole story centred on her from being left in India and finding her parents in Pakistan. While similarly in ‘Tubelight’ we have a child artiste named Matin Rey Tangu who is all set to melt our hearts a la Munni. Matin reportedly plays a Chinese boy who forms an integral part of the proceedings along with Salman Khan.

  5. Salman’s Support

Like Salman Khan had Nawazuddin’s character in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ supporting him in handing over Munni to her parents similarly it looks Salman has younger brother Sohail Khan supporting him in his mission in ‘Tubelight’. This will be the second time after ‘Veer’ that Salman Khan will be seen playing brother to Sohail Khan. ‘Tubelight’ will also see Salman’s mother Salma Khan turning producer for the first time and late actor Om Puri’s last screen appearance.

  6. No Major Villain

In ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ there was no villain as such to speak whereas there’s no villain in ‘Tubelight’ too, according to its makers. Though audiences believed that Pakistan plays spoilsport in the former but it was the official authorities who were doing their duty by stopping an Indian from entering their territory without a visa. The same could be told about Tubelight where no character has been assigned to play the villain but it is the situation that plays spoilsport.

  8. Cast & Crew

Salman Khan naturally is the common factor in both the films along with director Kabir Khan. The other common factors are the producers who are Salman and Kabir Khan who have produced it under the banner of Salman Khan films and Kabir Khan films. The technicians like cinematography by Aseem Mishra, Editing by Rameshwar Bhagat and music score by Pritam and Julius Packiam have been repeated in ‘Tubelight’ too.

  9. Eid Release

Last but not the least, as a matter of fact, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was released on Eid 2015 and ‘Tubelight’ is also set for an Eid release this year. As we know an Eid release is booked for a Salman Khan film and no other filmmaker dares to release his film during Eid. If one may recall, ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ had released a week before the release of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ in 2015 but due to Salman’s dominance at the box-office the former couldn’t rake in the expected moolah.
