8 Most Prominent Families That Are Ruling Telugu Cinema

Family is the most important part of a person’s life and when families and professions merge, the kind of support and clout individuals enjoy is immense. Families have legacies, be it in business, politics or movies and these legacies are more prominent in the Telugu Film Industry. There are clans which have established themselves in Tollywood for generations, be it that of NTR, ANR or Ramanaidu. Here’s a list of popular families of Tollywood which have dominated the industry and continue to do so.

  1. Konidela Family

    Megastar Chiranjeevi is a phenomenon who ruled the Telugu silver screen for three decades. Nagababu, the second one is an actor-cum-producer, while the youngest brother in the Mega Family Pawan Kalyan is currently one of the most sought-after heroes in Tollywood. Chiru’s son Ram Charan and nephews Sai Dharam Tej and Varun Tej are all second generation heroes from the family.

  2. Nandamuri Clan

    One of the most influential families of Tollywood, Nandamuri Vamsam as it is called has been a part of the industry for almost seven decades. The legacy established by NTR, the biggest star of Telugu Cinema is being continued for four generations now with his son Balakrishna, grandson Jr. NTR counted among the A-listers of the film fraternity. His sons Hari Krishna and Jayakrishna, grandsons Kalyan Ram and Tarakaratna are all actors, while great-grandson NTR, also named after him made his debut this year as a child artist. NTR, who also served as a three-time Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh also established Ramakrishna Studios in Hyderabad.

  3. Akkineni Family

    The Akkineni clan has entered its 8th decade in the film industry. Akkineni Nageswara Rao, who made his debut in 1944 is one of the most respected actors in Tollywood. Both his sons Venkat, a movie producer and Nagarjuna, one of the leading stars in Tollywood are prominent members of Tollywood. His third generation also has a strong presence in the industry with five of his grandchildren including Naga Chaitanya, Akhil, Sumanth, Supriya (the first female actor from the family) turning actors. ANR also established the Annapurna Studios in 1975 which is one of the best production houses in the country.

  4. Daggubati Family

    D. Ramanaidu holds the Guinness World Record for producing the maximum number of films in various Indian languages, predominantly Telugu. His first film as a producer was Anuragam which released in 1963. He founded the Ramanaidu Studios for which his elder son Suresh is the Chairman. His younger son Venkatesh is a prominent star, while grandsons Rana and Abhiram are also active in films. The former who is currently an actor also worked as a visual effects producer for award winning films and the latter is an executive producer.

  5. Ghattamaneni Family

    Krishna who made his debut with the film Tene Manasulu in 1965 went on to become a leading superstar, commanding a huge fan following. His elder son Ramesh who entered films as an actor, became a producer and is now supervises the family-owned Padmalaya Studios. His younger son Mahesh Babu is currently a leading star in Tollywood, while his daughter Manjula is a producer. Krishna’s wife, Vijaya Nirmala is also a Guinness World Record holder for most films by a woman director and his sons-in-law Sudheer and Sanjay are also actors.

    The first actor to feature in more than a thousand films, Allu Ramalingaiah is known for his versatility and comedy timing. His son Allu Aravind produced many blockbusters featuring his brother-in-law Megastar Chiranjeevi under his home banner Geetha Arts, which was established in 1972. Aravind’s three sons are into films. While Bunny is the Stylish Star of Tollywood, his younger brother Sirish is also an actor. Aravind’s eldest son Bobby is an executive producer in Geetha Arts.

Keeravani’s brothers Kalyani Malik and Kanchi are music director and writer respectively, while his wife Srivalli works as a line producer.
