The successful pair of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt is back to entertain us. After making their respective screen debuts in 2012 in Karan Johar’s ‘Student Of The Year’ the pair once again came together in ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ in 2014. Now, the same production team is back in 2017, with the next installment of the franchise titled 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania’. Going by the trailer it looks like the team has another winner on its hands but it will be interesting to watch how different is it to its prequel. Comparisons are bound to be made once it releases in theaters on 10 March but let’s look into some of the differences that separate the two romcoms from one another.

  1. The Cast

Besides director Shashank Khaitan and producer Karan Johar of Dharma Productions, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt have been retained to play the lead pair in ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’. But the rest of the cast won’t be repeated in the sequel except for Sahil Vaid (Poplu) who has been retained as Varun’s friend. Varun Dhawan plays Badrinath Bansal than to his Humpty Sharma whereas Alia Bhatt’s character has been named Vaidehi Trivedi who plays a college going student and dreams to go for higher studies abroad.

  2. The Music

According to the film’s unit, the USP of the sequel is its music which has already become popular. The first installment too had good music composed by Sachin-Jigar and Sharib-Toshi but the sequel has music by Amaal Mallik, Tanishk Bagchi and Akhil Sachdeva who have come up with five tracks in all. The remix version of ‘Tamma Tamma’ has already caught the fancy of many music buffs.

  3. The Backdrop

The backdrop for the story of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania ’ was New Delhi and parts of Haryana and Punjab villages where Varun and Alia’s characters belong. In ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’, the location has shifted to Kota, Jaipur, Jhansi and Singapore where the respective characters of Badrinath and Vaidehi hail from. Later the story moves from India to Singapore where Vaidehi is shown studying. All of this makes for an interesting watch.

  4. The Language

It was Punjabi and Haryanvi accent based languages that Varun and Alia’s characters spoke in ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ as the former hailed from Delhi and the latter from Haryana and Punjab. ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ will see Varun speaking in chaste Kanpuria accent and Alia in a typical urban northern Indian accent. The northern flavour are in sync with their characters which is sure to add flavour to the proceedings.

  5. The Love Theme

Like its prequel the second installment too revolves around romance but the only thing that separates the two is the way Varun wins over Alia in the end. In the prequel it was Humpty who goes to Kavya’s village to win her family whereas here Badrinath will be seen wooing his dulhania, Alia before the both walk down the sunset.

  6. The Social Element

Going by what we saw in the trailer of ‘BKD’ it’s not all that rosy for Badri and Vaidehi, the flick has a surprise element to deal with. It has been revealed that Alia and her sister in the flick are victims of dowry system which is the main reason for them not getting married. So be prepared for a bit of dowry bashing from the characters in the film as BKD is all set to mesmerize us with its desi love story!
