#4YearsofDangal - 6 factors that made the film a classic that it is

Dangal has been a glorious milestone in Indian cinema. The film which completes four years today has gone to the history of Indian cinema and how! The sports biopic of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat was an eye-opener to the Bollywood film industry.

The Aamir Khan starrer can be referred to as a guidebook on how to make a great commercial venture without compromising the quality. From being the biggest blockbuster of Bollywood to making a world-wide impact, Dangal has set an example in various ways.

This has been possible for 6 important factors that did wonder for the movie. Check them out here.

1. Unbiased and Appropriate Casting

Dangal will always be an example of how apt casting can be and how it matters. The makers of the movies left no stone unturned to find the right actors for every character. Instead of casting a Starkid or popular face, they put the effort to select the best one. With Dangal, three new faces entered Bollywood - Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Zaira Wasim. All of them looked credible as wrestlers from Haryana. Sakshi Tanwar and Aparshakti Khurrana were also part of the wonderful cast.

2. Simple Narrative

Dangal was simple - it was about a national-level champion wrestler who wanted to bring gold for the nation but failed. When he realized his daughters have the potential, he motivated the girls to be a great sports-person who will make India proud in time.

The script stayed truthful to the narrative and never tried to complicate things by adding unnecessary subplots. It had a tough job to make the audience understand less popular sports and take the audience into the world of wrestlers. It did it without fail.

3. Flawless Direction

Let's appreciate the captain of the ship, Nitesh Tiwari, the director. Tiwari had wonderful actors working for the project but that doesn't make his work easy. Tiwari wasn't telling a love saga or a rom-com which easily attract an audience.

He was explaining a lesser-known game Wrestling through a film, telling a story of a father and daughter from rural India, and expecting the Bollywood mainstream audience to be intrigued by it! Did he do it? Yes, with precision.

4. Realistic Execution

Dangal was immensely appreciated for its realistic execution. In 2016, another film made on a wrestler's life - Sultan had released. The factor that made Dangal a better film is its realistic approach.

Dangal didn't try to represent a Bollywood-appropriate form of wrestling and people related to it. It amazed its audience mostly with the necessary elements only. In fact, the film stood out from all the other sports biopic made in recent years for its raw execution. Apart from Chak De India, no other Hindi sports biopic has managed to achieve the feat.

5. Moments To remember

Dangal has beautifully created some moments that will stay with the audience. Let's just take the example of the climax scene.

Breaking the tropes, the entire scene Aamir Khan, the protagonist stayed away from where the main action was happening, anticipating every moment just like the audience. His character can't see his daughter when she is fighting the most important match of her life and he is the only one expecting to hear something hopeful. His wait gets over with the National Anthem of India.

Pure Gold!.

6. Aamir Khan

Arguably, the best performance of Bollywood's perfectionist by far. It is a shame that he didn't receive an award for it. Not many superstars in Bollywood play an age-appropriate role while he played the father of two grown-ups.

From speaking the native language of Mahavir Singh Phogat to the body language of a former, now unfit sports person - Aamir did everything with perfection.

Not only as an actor, but he is also the man behind the project and all the above-mentioned factors worked in harmony because he cared about the cinema more than his stardom.
