14 Bollywood Celebrities Who Don’t Believe In Award Functions

Bollywood award functions have often been marred by controversy. Over the years, that stars have complaint against how these award functions work. In recent years, this became even more evident. It is more than often that the undeserving candidates get lucky and walk away with the awards. The favoritsm and unfair selection process have stated put off the stars and audience as well. Thus many Bollywood stars and celebrities have felt that audience applause is more than these awards. The inconsistency shown at awards functions have called for boycotting by some of our Bollywood celebrities. We look at 14 such popular Bollywood celebrities who never attend award functions or don’t believe in award functions.

  • Aamir Khan

    It’s been a long time since Aamir Khan expressed his disbelief in these award ceremonies and functions which are held throughout the year and hold no value. The ‘Dangal’ star has always maintained that how undeserving actors walk away with the coveted trophies and how inconsistent some awards can be. He is one of the biggest Bollywood stars who is consistently missing from award functions and believes that his biggest award is when audiences accept his movies and appreciate his performances.

  • Abhay Deol

    Post Sushant Singh Rajput's death when many lashed out against the favoritism in bollywood, Abhay Deol opened up against the award functions in India. In an Insagram post, the talented actor recalled how after “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” released in 2011 he and Farhan Akhtar was sidelined by all the award functions. He said all the award ceremonies gave them nominations for supporting actors when the nominations for the leading actors were given to Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. He called Filmfare Awards #familyfareawards and revealed that he has boycotted the awards.

    "I don't know if they are awards night or they are a collection of actors at night," said Sunny Deol in an interview. The actor refuses to call them award night and questioned the process and its credibility. "Here I know people say I will charge this much money or I will only come if I get this thing or I won't come or give me this special award and all. So it's all about that. This is what we are. Let me not go on that track further," told the elder Deol brother. Just like his cousin Abhay Deol, Sunny has also stopped appearing in the award functions.

    One of the favourite of the masses, Akshay Kumar too is a part of the ‘no award’ list who some time back received an award but returned it back believing that he didn’t deserve it. Since then the ‘Khiladi Kumar’ has announced to keep himself away from these awards. The actor though has claimed that many award organizers have offered to give him an award on the pretext that he performs at the award function for free but he believed in getting paid for his performance rather than taking home an award.

  • Ajay Devgn

    Actor Ajay Devgn who has been in the Bollywood industry for over 25 years now also is not for awards. The two times he bagged a Filmfare award was for his debut film ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ where he walked away with the Best Debutant award and the second time he received it was for his negative role in ‘Deewangi’ in 2002. The actor announced a decade ago that he doesn’t believe in these awards which are nothing less than a sham.

  • Kangana Ranaut

    Surprisingly actress Kangana Ranaut is the only popular actress in this list who has said no to awards. The ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ actress has categorically stated many times that she doesn’t believe in the awards system and prefers to stay away from them. She believes that most of the times a lot of lobbying and rigging goes on behind the scenes before award functions are held.

John though has been nominated a few times in Filmfare’s ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ categories but always said that they are circus acts.     Music composer cum director, Vishal Bhardwaj off late was quoted saying during an interview that he has no respect left for the popular awards as he has stopped attending them. The director of ‘Rangoon’ who has made most of his films based on the stories of Shakespeare feels that award functions are boring events which are only made for the TV audience to get in the TRP’s.

    The flagbearer of Yash Raj Films, producer and director Aditya Chopra has always been media shy and kept himself away from the limelight. Adi (as he is lovingly called) has appeared just once at the Filmfare awards in 1996 when his film ‘DDLJ’ walked away with almost all the popular awards that year. Since then the media shy producer-director has never appeared at any awards night and doesn’t believe in these so called awards.

    Surprisingly actor Emraan Hashmi too stays away from these awards function since first appearing on screen with ‘Footpath’ in 2003. Though the actor has been nominated a few times in different acting categories for his performances but has always maintained a distance from all these awards nights and functions for the last 12-13 years. The ‘Azhar’ actor prefers to stay with his family or shoot his films rather than attending any of these awards night.

He believes that these awards have lost its credibility and value as it makes a mockery of the artists who believe that awards are everything that an actor needs to survive.
