    No surprises here. Even before Kabali released, people were expecting it to rewrite many box office records. And, it did. The Rajinikanth starrer, which was a gangster flick, collected a stellar amount of Rs. 335 crores in its first week, across the world. The film was dubbed into Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam. The film went on to become a super hit due to the craze for Rajinikanth and positive word of mouth.

    Prior to its release, the moviemakers flooded all the media channels with promotional material. On top of it, it boasted the status of India's Biggest Motion Picture.     Post-Enthiran, the audience expected a lot from director Shankar. Futuristic visuals, stunning performances, gripping story were some of the expectations. By the end of its first week, it collected more than Rs. 137 crores.

Ravikumar who delivered super hits of which 'Muthu' is one of them. Given the different subject and Superstar's fan base, the movie easily collected more than Rs. 98 crores in its first week.

    Vijay was at his top form in Kaththi. He perfectly conveyed many emotions such as aggression and sorrow. And to top it off, he was quite perfect as a fun loving yet committed police officer. The film collected Rs. 82 crores in its first week. Owing to its success, Tollywood big wig Chiranjeevi was roped in to star in the Telugu remake of this super hit.

    Given its different subject, 24 garnered a lot of attention. Time travel is a theme that Indian Cinema didn't explore much. Only a handful of flicks sported that theme and it was forgotten by everyone except director Vikram Kumar. With a very interesting screenplay, he cast Suriya in all three lead roles. The casting pitted Suriya against himself on the silver screen and he was exceptional in all three of the roles. Due to its simplistic screenplay and positive word of mouth, it collected Rs. 75 crores in its first week.

    Star hero Suriya's 2018 release Thaana Serndha Koottam scored well at the box office in its opening week by raking in Rs. 74.5 crores. The movie was inspired by Mumbai Opera House heist in 1987. The movie received generally positive reviews.

    Murgadoss' directorials are to known to be different. With Thuppakki, he dealt with the worsening situation of our national security and how it morally affects capable Indian soldiers. Murgadoss brought the patriotic side of Vijay, who is the lead actor of this film. The film was a super hit and it raked an amount of Rs. 65 crores. The film was remade in Hindi as Holiday and it was successful even there.
